Hello all,

I have a 1986 Nissan 720 with the 2.4 z24 engine. I was unable to pass emissions due to high HC levels at idle. Since then I have been diving into the ignition system to try and figure this out. The current issues I am experiencing are a rough and inconsistent idle (not sure both banks of spark plugs are firing correctly) and the ignition cuts in and out when the truck is revved up or under load (sounds like a slow rev limiter).
Video to that here: https://youtube.com/shorts/wk6jvyBfUuE? ... ThGt5Bqhi-

Things I have tried:
- New spark plugs, and plug wires
- New Cap (waiting on new rotor in mail)
- Tested coils, both seem to be working
- Adjusted Carb idle mix screw (weber 32/36 getting ordered soon)
- Cleaning electrical connectors and grounds in engine bay
- Adjusted timing (Truck will only run with the distributor biased fully to one side, not sure if its advanced or retarded)

I am confident that the truck has a good fuel supply and sufficient air, this leaves spark or vacuum to be the issue. What would cause the truck to cut spark when under load or whatever its doing to make it sound like it is in the video? I had the air cleaner off when testing this once to verify that a constant stream of fuel was coming out of the carb so I doubt its fuel related (unless something vac related to the carb). I have also tried letting the truck idle while removing one of the spark plug wires on the intake (idle drops and gets rougher) and then on exhaust (idle drops and gets rougher). This makes me think that both banks of spark plugs are at least firing at idle, this was not the case previously (one side had no effect when removed plug wires).

I know that the vac lines have been messed with on this truck and the previous owner has installed the cheapest possible carb from ebay. I am running out of ideas on this and open to any suggestion for troubleshooting these issues. Here is the link to my other thread on Ratsun: https://ratsun.net/topic/83426-1984-nis ... ject-stan/

Thank you all
