Nissan xterra to Pontiac Fiero

I have recently gotten access to a cheap xterra with the vg33 engine, and I will be installing it in my 1984 Pontiac Fiero. The car is mid engine, so it takes a fwd transaxle on the rear wheels. I need information on if the ecu will accept a fwd transaxle, and which donor car should I look for.

The Fiero is a mid engine space frame design sports car from Pontiac in 1984-88. Pontiac wanted the car to be, as the engineers said, "worthy of sharing garages with Porshes and Ferraris." GM didn't like how much better the car was set to preform compared to the corvette, so they nuked the budget & told Pontiac to make it into a fuel efficient commuter. Pontiac responded by digging into the parts bin to get the same design out. They ended up creating one of the best platforms to build yourself an incredible beast. As it is the car handles amazing, even on the tiny 185/80SR13 13x5.5 wheels. It weighs roughly 2500lbs, and the replacement vg33 engine should only introduce less than 60 lbs. Replace the drivetrain, suspension, wheels, and I've got myself a real sports car. That's what brings me to the Nissan Forums. My friend has a 2006 infinity g35x and it sounds great, makes good power, can be easily modded, and is in general doing really well. He's convinced me Nissan is my best choice for this project. I paid about $600 for the Fiero, and will pay $200 for the xterra. This makes the Fiero an incredibly cheap way to get into high performance driving.
