Hi, I am new to this forum but I am glad that I found it. I have been hearing a noise in the rear end of my Xterra now for 2 weeks. It sounds like when your brake pads wore down and it's rubbing. Anyway, I took it to the Nissan Dealership last night and they came back and said that I needed to replace my whole transfer case. Now, I asked them, how can that be when the vehicle only has 84,000 miles on it and I have used the 4-wheel drive only about 5 times a year. I put it in 4 wheel drive only to really get the gears and stuff moving. I use to live in an area that gets 4 - 10 feet of snow, hence the reason I bought the Xterra. Now I live in just rain. Has anybody heard of this before? Any advice? Warranty expired already. Help Please

get a second opinion.

Have you ever checked the fluid in the Tcase to ensure it's not full of metal chunks or worse yet, run dry?
