Oddly enough, my first post comes in the Altima forums despite the fact that im a 240 guy. Now, down to business, and for gods sake i hope this is in the right section. Now, my dilemma:

Back when my parents purchased their 05 Nissan Altima, they also opted for the extended warranty(at pretty much no cost because my uncle sold them the car). Now the battery died a couple of days ago and it needed to be replaced. My mom didnt get it replaced at the Nissan dealership and she went over the warranty after the fact to see what it said. Apparently having work done elsewhere(such as changing a battery) and not at a nissan stealership nulls and voids the warranty. First of all, what the is up with that ****? Second of all, isnt that illegal? I mean, thats some sort of monopoly is it not? **** i even know getting your oil changed somewhere other than a ferrari dealership doesnt void your warranty with ferrari. Any info/help would be greatly appreciated.

it can void your warrantty of XYZ part IF they can prove that the battery which wasn't replaced by Nissan directly caused part XYZ to fail.

you have nothing to worry about. i have a 02 altima that had the extended warranty and have never been to the dealership to have a battery or oil change for it and the warranty was always good. the stuff the warranty covers is the stuff you take the car to the dealership for that is covered under warranty. i let nissan do the scheduled maintanence, just not the oil changes and it's never been a problem.
