Hey everybody, I am looking to buy a 240sx, not sure whether I want an s13 or an s14. Im hoping to find one with an sr20 already swapped.

I was wondering how difficult 240s are to work on, diagnose and fix. All the old farts that I work with, said I was a dumb f*** for wanting a nissan because they area pain to fix. Does this hold true with 240's? Im not talking general maintenance but electrical problems, or other common problems with them. thanks a lot-Dan

240's are relatively simple in my opinion. But it all depends on your mechanical aptitude.

Go read the stickies for common problems/issues. What are your plans for it?

240s are so easy to work on, that's why I love them.

Dude I have a shop, and I'm telling you now my 240 and all older nissans, short of the 300ZX TT and some infinities, are the best engineered cars to deal with. They are EASY to deal with. The only older (pre-renualt) nissans that were WTF?? are first gen Q45. It may come easy for me 'caise I'm a mechanic but bottom line is: they are simple, well built cars

they are easy to work with externally (putting/pulling motors), but the motor for the swaps can be very old and a big pain in the a**...but I love them just the same

I have worked on cars that I needed to loosen the engine mounts and lift the engine just to replace a freaking belt. My buddy paid the stealership $600 to replace the sparkplugs on his '06 eclipse. 3 up front that weren't that bad to get to, but they had to drop the engine to get at the 3 that were sandwiched between the engine and firewall.like Hummers and Cadillacs, I see them with water in the tail lights. looking in the engine bay of a 240sx you have easy access to pretty much everything. I can change my oil filter with my hand, piece of cake, since it RWD you have more room in there too.

On Nissans in general, sh*t just makes sense. that stuff listed above just urks the hell outta me. -Imagine a girl I was seeing says her car isn't running right. I find a broken belt, ok, no big deal. then I buy a new one and go to put it in and see that a 15minute job on my car, took half a f*cking day.-Or what a 5 minute job to replace spark plugs and wires on my car. Would require a $600 trip to the dealership.-And finally, spending big bucks on a caddy or hummer to find that your tail lights are about as good of quality as those off ebay. that would piss you off.

I choose Nissans, hands down, for life.

i would have to say after owning several models of cars from Ford, Mazda, Subaru, Mitsubishi, and Honda that Nissans are by far the easiest to work on.

i've owned 2 nissans. a 2002 sentra se-r specv with the qr25de motor and now a 89 240 coupe with KA. all i can say is that its so easy to work on both cars. most everything is in hands reach. thats why i love nissans.

and its f***ing bulls**t that you have to pay 600 to replace some plugs. thats hella ghey bro...

Same here I have 02 spec v and a 89 coupe, don't listen to old farts with old school mentality "jap cars suck buy american" Nissans are easy to work on and cheap to repair, you want hard to work on buy a german car

and here's another plus... if you stay on top of any rust issues.... they will last! my frame has 180,000 miles on it and been drifting for 4 years... still strong as ever.

IMO nissans are very easy to work on, rwd makes everything easier as well. Old farts with the mentality of jap cars are bad are completely wrong, if you have a daily jap car ANY jap car and keep the oil changed in them they will run literally forever.

Easy as s*** to work on. Stick with a KA tho, its just easier than an sr especially if you dont know too much bout cars. Ive had 6 240sxs and a 280z. All easy to work on except my sr20 hatch im selling.

Drop a chevy ls V8 in it if you care about what old farts think. When you pop the hood they will

thanks for the posts guys I just needed a little reassurance. I always thought they looked pretty simple to work on. Mechanical aptitude is no problem for me, ive been working on cars and things of that sort since i could walk. Im just tired of the bullcrap my truck's transmission is giving me. Ive had to replace the TCC O/D solenoid, governor pres. sensor, gov.pres. solenoid, boost cover plate and the torque converter. THen the accumulator spring broke in half and Chrysler wanted me to buy a whole new valve body for $900 instead of selling me the 2 dollar spring. All this happened in a period of 4 months that ive owned the truck and ive only got 120xxx on it. I just hope my future nissan will last longer than that.

not sure what the others said, i will read later but around here people that dont want to work on "imports" are f***ing retards and you should stay far away any type of mechanic that is shallow minded as such. these are very easy cars to maintain and repair and the first step is to tell anyone that a nissan is hard to work on to f*** off. simple layout, not really cramped in the engine bay, taking things out doesnt require all day, huge aftermarket support, etc... ive owned 6 nissans, 4 of them 240s and 2 pulsars. nissan for life, seriously nothing comes close. ...maybe subarus.

They simply do not like Japanese cars. Yet, they are much more reliable and easier to deal with than American cars.

Just depends on what you like.

dude F*CK that sh*t, its like if you would've wanted a new valve body you would've f*cking asked for one. that type of crap pisses me off. and I've seen some real headache engineering form domestic cars so those old guys can shove it.

all cars, domestic and foreign have their own stupid design issues, because engineers dont work on cars, they just design them. and the f***ing dealers are bandits just tryin to make a quick buck. I think the guys i work with would rather just go back to the days when the only thing electric on a car was the battery lights starter and ignition. But u guys have convinced me that the 240 will be worth buying. Ive got my eye on one with a swap done, as soon as I sell the truck im gonna jump on it, i hope its still around
