For the first time in the world, an Electro-hydraulic Power Steering system has been adopted in which the motor is activated only when the driver is steering. Essentially, it offers the advantages of both types of steering--the natural and smooth steering of hydraulic power steering and the improved fuel efficiency of electric power steering.

Didn't George-Washington Carver invent the first of these powered by a small rodent?

"The Electric Driven Intelligent Brake, on the other hand, is designed for hybrid vehicles and uses their electric motor to directly operate the brake cylinders. When the driver steps on the brake pedal, the necessary braking force is maintained while the hydraulic pressure of the friction brake is controlled to help maximize energy regeneration. The good news is that it can be applied to various future hybrid vehicles."

The big question is whether the on-demand pump motor operation really does balance out the power costs of the electric pump. Energy conversion is obviously never 100% efficient, and going in circles (mechanical to electric and back to mechanical) is hardly ideal from an efficiency standpoint. Biggest gains, I assume, will be had at idle, which makes it great for hybrids.

dont mean to thread jack, but I'm more hyped about the 1.2 liter Direct injected on/off supercharged (remember mad max?) miller cycle 3 cylinder motor that will be the most efficient gas motor on earth. :ohsnap
more details in a few months.

No it wont...because honda two stroke 50cc engines can get up to 2000 mpg in the right vehicle.
Still a sweet engine though.
