i had a 4th gear grinding problem, nissan advised me that the transmission needs to be replaced.

then they told me that the transmission is controlled by the computer, and that since i modified the car, it messed up the computer and therefore they cannot cover the repairs, and i would have to pay for them to fix it.

my mods - Fujita SRI, Custom 3in Cat-less Cat-back exhaust, Rotora X-drilled/Slotted Rotors, Racingline F&R Endlinks, and also wider tires (235/50/17)

I told the manager that wider tires would not even mess with the computer since the overall height of the tire is exactly the same, and then he was trying to bulls*** with me and told me that the car knows when you put wider tires on, and it reads differences when you turn as well. obviously i wasnt having it.

I plan on returning my car back to stock, and take it to a different dealer.

Can anyone recommend me to a reliable Nissan service center that you have had a good experience with in the Queens, Nassau, Suffolk portion of New York.

DISCUSS.

That sucks bro. I saw a thread a while ago that stated " the dealer can only VOID your warranty if and only IF they can prove that the mods that were done to the car are the reason why those parts of your car F'ED up." Maybe someone else could find the post. You should have been smart about it and replaced the major MODS to stock parts before you took it in. Other then that you can tow the car back home remove the mods and take the car to a different dealer. Those are my thoughts. Good luck dude. Ricky C.

the car drives and everything, its just most of the time when shifting into 4th gear the synchro grinds.

im in the process of peeling all the aftermarket stuff off, and putting the OEM stuff back on and im going to take it to a different dealer. hopefully they will honor my warranty agreement.

That is total BS and you need to throw the Magnuson Moss Act of 1975 They need to prove to you that the mods that you put on the car was a direct cause of failure to the part. Hope you get this cleared up man. Let us know how you make out.

I'm pretty sure Nissan has a network with all of their dealers and they probably flagged your car in the system with the voided warranty. Taking all the mods off may not do any good, just a heads up. Good luck

Ya I wrote on that post but I dont know where to find it. So the dealer told me that the modification must directly effect the part and if that part failed its void. So for instance my intake requires me to remove the sensor from the stock intake and put it on the new intake. That sensor warranty is void if it messes up but they still have to prove it and you are covered under the what I believe is called the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. In Canada we have the Consumer Protection act :

yea, i doubt they did that.

and how can they prove that wider tires effected my transmission.

and besides, at around 15k miles i took the car in for the same problem, and they didnt do anything, and i only put these new tires on 1.5 weeks ago so it couldnt not have contributed to the problem.

and how they hell is a manual transmission controlled by the ECU, please someone answer this. the only thing if anything that is metered is the temperature.

This happened to my boy and the dealer did "flagged" his car.

His car was Modded too, I think he had a Short Shifter and had issues with Grinding.

He tried fighting it but instead of Replacing the Transmission, they only tried repairing it. Today, he still believes they didn't do anything and said they would bring it in to shut him up. After a few months, he sold the car.

Good luck.

Right now as it stands i believe everything they told you was "verbal" and i am learning more and more verbal is useless. Its just a scare away tatic so they dont have to spend money.

Go back to them and reques a statement in "writing" that states wich aftermarket part has caused a problem with your transmission and any proof they can link with it.

Tell them you need to show this to your lawyer becuase he/she is requesting it.

I suspect 1 of 2 things will happen they will either change there tune or actualy produce the paper work.

Either way if they provide you with the paperwork you can use it agaisnt them if your mods really did not cause any damage.

Erm...wider tires caused it? Do they realize that 09 coupes come with that size tire stock?

Sigh...cheap-o dealers looking for the quick buck piss me off - I would go there, and call up Nissan Corporate.

So in other words nearly every A/C on here is going to break since most have aftermarket and wider wheels/tires. Give me a break. I would also say so you are telling me that the Nissan is that much more advanced than every other car ever created that it can sense a wider tire. Thats a bunch of B/S.

I call total BS on that too; if that dealer's logic held true the staggered wheels I have would probably blow up the CVT in mine.

Great to use BUT the problem is they will prob take you to court and it will take FOREVER literally.....9 out of 10 times they win but this is good bc nothing you put in effects the transmission.

yeah- thats bull get all up in there and demand the proof. one of the main reasons y i bought my car where i did is cus i told them when i was buying it that this is what i do- the first salesman to tell me dont do that- i was out the door- 2nd dude who my mom bought my 98' in told me he loved my old car and that if i wanna do it this time around go for it. they even gave me 'cost' for aftermarket install which ive only used once for my exhaust n did everything else myself lol but still-

get a new dealer and shove ur transmission up thier panty

thats what im saying.

how the hell can the car know how wide the wheel is. the only thing that will throw off anything is the height of the tire, and that only throws of the odometer.

and how can anything else i have on the car cause the transmission to grind...ill tell you, no way in hell!

this problem started when i had no mods on the car, and its still happening up till this day.

There are ways to be flagged as my dealership had to do it before. There's two that I know of, both nitrous backfires that were attempted to be hidden, one being obvious, one took a little digging, but both vehicles were taken to other dealers and claims denied due to what we had found.

In your particular situation, I would want to know how they came to the conclusion that the mods affected the transmission. I'm sure they have their documentation in order if they are denying a claim, so it's going to be a tough road if you get a continuous denial at other dealers due to what this dealer found.

Did you goto Amity Nissan? They try to nickel and dime everything. Apparently they changed owners recently and now they suck horribly.

My suggestion is to goto the one in Westbury. Brian's (LongBeachCoupe) Nissan tech works there and I'm sure if you spoke to him he could help you out.

That is total crap. My dealer tried to get out of fixing something on my car that was damaged at the dealership. I called Nissan USA and filed a complaint and within 2 days I had the dealership calling me to make an appointment to get my car fixed. Just make sure when the customer service rep asks you if you want to file a complaint against the dealership you specify that you want the car fixed.

Good luck bud.

yes i did go to amity nissan, since that is where i bought my car, and they are closest to my house.

which dealer are you talking about in westbury...Advantage Nissan. from what i know of them, they are pretty good, and Vinny Ten (VTR) is kind of sponsored by them.

i think im going to go there and see what they say.

i dont believe they flagged my car because how can they possibly prove that any of my mods affected the transmission.

can someone who knows brian (LBC), or brian himself tell me the name of his technician so i can ask him to work on my car when i go there.

Ill hit up Brian about it.

I also bought mine from Amity, nothing but a positive experience at the dealership though. Ive been to Atlantic and they suck, period. Amity is prolly one of the better dealerships ive dealt with.

This is my 2nd Altima from Smithtown Nissan and I've never had a problem, I'm actually very happy with their service department(I go to them for all my oil changes, maintenance, etc.) Only thing is if you go there for an inspection, make sure your windshield wipers are relatively new otherwise they tell you that you wont pass the safety inspection unless you replace them (And it cost 33.00 to replace the two of them)
