Saw this car at a car show once. Doesn't look appealing.

That original concept was actually built from a Mini Cooper that they rebodied.

Well, at least it won't actually be CALLED the Chrysler Versa...

Come on, Versa owners calling the Hornet ugly is kind of like calling the kettle black. The Versa is not going to win any beauty contests.

So the Hornet would be like a Versa with a lifetime powertrain warranty. Not a bad thing.

Not winning beauty contests and butt ugly are not the same thing.

Butt ugly with a lifetime powertrain warranty is still butt ugly. And it's the lifetime of Chrysler, not the car that we're talking about.

I looks like a cross between the Scion xA/xD and the Pontiac Vibe. Just my two cents.

A lifetime powertrain warranty doesn't mean squat if the REST of the car falls apart. Which so far it seems that Versas are prone to doing.

Boy, EV, after your defense of Hyundais, Daewoos and whatever when someone here makes generalizations, you say something like this! Even with the "common" problems that some folks report here, it's a lot different than the car falling apart. Please let me know what parts of Versas are prone to falling apart.

I dunno...I like it. If it looks anything like the concept version, I think it'll be a hit. I mean, it'll probably be a hit regardless; given the current, and future state of gas prices. I really hope they decide to make a SRT version, if they don't keep the S/C Cooper engine.

It's not like we know the full extent of problems yet. And I'm making an exaggeration of my own and other peoples' problems because yes, I am VERY unhappy with my Versa at this point.

When's the last time you saw a really cool engine in a concept car and they actually KEPT that engine for the production vehicle? I'm going to say that happen on the 11th of Never.

Besides, Mini and Nissan have no working relationship, so that's another no.

Well, that was sort of a joke EV. But I do hope they make an SRT version. but regardless I don't know why you have to be such a d!ck about it. I know that Nissan and Mini have no working relationship. I'm not f*cking retarted. But, thanks anyway.

Probably the same reason that I didn't realize you were making a joke is the same reason you think I was trying to be a d!ck about it, which I wasn't. God bless the internet and its lack of readable emotion.

Personally, I don't mind the way the Hornet concept looks. Since the Cube will be hitting North America soon, I'd guess the Hornet (or whatever it'll be called) will probably share platform with it. Dimensions look pretty close. I sure hope Nissan thought things through on their agreement with Chrysler. A small fuel efficient car is missing from their current line-up, but I fail to see why Nissan would need a restyled truck from Dodge in light of rising gas prices.

Ha ha, sorry. That was sort of a joke again. I figured that you weren't REALLY bein' a d!ck.

But anyway, I can't wait to see how the production model ends up. Not that the chances of me buying one are very high at all, but I am curious. I'm still waiting to see the Dodge Demon hit production. I wish that car would have made it.

You're full of all kinds of interesting quotes I've never heard before.

The new Hornet is quite a departure from the last vehicle to bear the nameplate. The last Hornet was a "compact", not a subcompact. I also use the term compact loosely because that's by muscle-car era US manufacturers standards.

Also, the last car never was a 4-door hatch. Sedan, yes. 2-door sedan, yes, 2-door hatch, yes... even a wagon, yes. And its predecessor only had a straight six or V8 as options... no 4-cyls.

With car makers recycling and reviving old nameplates, does this mean we might see new Pacers and Gremlins in the near future?

Too funny!! I happen to like the looks of the Hornet as well. I personally find the Versa ugly, but the price couldn't be beat for what I was looking for.

I've heard the Versa compared to a lot of things before.....never has a Mercedes been one of them. That is quite the stretch

We can only hope not. That would be like reviving the Edsel. I used to have a 1961 Dodge Lancer. Mitsubishi of course, revived the Lancer name. Hornet seems like a pretty cool car name also.

On a jeep forum I sometimes frequent (interested in getting a Patriot), there is the occasional concern about the lifetime warranty as compared with the potential lifetime of the company. A valid concern that probably keeps some folks out of their showrooms.

I traded in a 1999 C280 Mercedes and bought a Versa - I was tired of putting $100-$150 or more per month to fix electrical issues + burning oil at only $120k miles.
