Hi all,

Hoping I could pick someone’s brains in regard to my friends truck I’m looking to purchase off him.

It’s a 1999 Nissan Terrano with a ZD30DDTi.

Two concerns I have, if someone could give me their thoughts.

1) Turbo seems to whistle quite loud. Loud enough to certainly recognize it is loud.
2) There is quite a lag between first and second gear (automatic).

Are these issues that are or could potentially turn into something quite serious?

Thanks for your time,

Jim

Turbo whistle could be dependent on what exhaust is on it.

As far as the shifting, have you driven other similar vehicles to make sure its not just perception and is an actual issue? Is there jeering or clunking involved with the action?

Just to elaborate, I used to have a 92 Subaru SVX, and thing took FOREVER to shift from 1st to 2nd. Turned out to be normal and just a result of all the things the trans had to do to go from 1st to 2nd. Just high line pressure coupled with a complex trans designed to hold more power than su Aruba had ever come up with. This being a diesel might just have the same thing going on with an over engineered trans.
