I just noticed this chart in the Nissan Skyline 32 GT-R Owners Bible, it gives the chassis numbers of the cars produced each month in Japan. Something pretty useful when it comes to figuring out if a 1989 Nissan Skyline GT-R is over 25 years old in 2014. Once they are over 25 years old, they will be both EPA exempt, and NHTSA/DOT exempt. The R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R was first sold in August 1989.

August 1989 BNR32-000054
September 1989 BNR32-001089
October 1989 BNR32-002089

That's some pretty awesome info, Sean.

Wonder where I could find that info on R33's. Would be cool to know what month my car was built.

Here's a question for ya. Did/Does Japan sell cars like in the U.S.? For example, a 2014 model year car will start selling mid to late 2013.

You could actually view this in FAST by entering your VIN, it will list it under Prod. M/Y - for all intents and purposes this is the date that matters for customs clearance.

Japan is actual year and date. Not like the US, where you can buy a 2014 Nissan GT-R in January 2013.

As was mentioned, FAST could also look up dates, but I could never get my setup to work right.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skyline_GT-R#Production states:

"Initial production of the car was the required 510 to allow for homologation starting on May 22, 1989. Its successful debut along with critical acclaim by the motoring press created a heavy demand for the car. Nissan officially started an unlimited production run August 1989"

Doesn't that mean production began in May?

That is Wikipedia. Do you want me to change it to read the initial production run was 1, made especially for me? Trust Wikipedia as far as you can throw it. Which being an internet site, not too far.

From Nissan's GT-R History Anime they handed out at the R35 introduction. R32 GT-R appeared on the race track in 1990, a year after its launch.....

Here are all the chassis numbers and the dates for them. So unless Nissan had 510 other chassis numbers, no did not happen.

And I fixed the Wikipedia page.

March 18, 1990

300 km race at the West Circuit.

Hoshino/Suzuki in the Calsonic car won the final race beating the course record by two seconds. The Reebok car driven by Hasemi/Olofsson finished in 2nd place.

The Calsonic car won five of the six races that year and was the 1990 season champion.

It says something like start of production. Then at the end says end of production.

Where in Japan are you located?

We have a pretty large group of GT-R owners in the Kanagawa/Tokyo/Saitama/Chiba area.
Most are military, though.
