Well just to help you out, Youtube is great to hear how diffrent types of bovs sound. Just put on some headphones and type in the type of bov you want to hear and there will be most likely a video for them. Hope this helps.

As fake-a** as that whole movie series is it was likely dubbed in.

If you mean the achchacha noise the R34 had when he revved it that was the turbos backpedalling, not a BOV. The shifting whistle sounds like one of those gay little HKS super sequentials.

When a car has no blow off or one with a stiff spring or just has not built up enough pressure to open it, the air stacks up in the piping and resists the compressor resulting in the chopping noise. Think of dragging your finger against a spinning fan to slow it down, same thing. I remember when I first heard that sound over a decade ago and hit all the stores looking for the "rattlesnake blow off valve"

OP start with the most respected brands, ( blitz, greddy, hks ) then look for and listen to their sounds like brunnem suggested. Find one that you like... and you might hear one that you enjoy even more.

avoid the bandwagon... its lame up there.

Some of us here can be very blunt to questions like this but WE all started not knowing much.

Cars generate there sounds like almost a band, they all compliemt eachother. Everything works in sync.First understand the function of a blow off valve. A BOV can be tuned and also customized depending on the brand. The noise is great but remeber that having a "loud" BOV on a stock motor is not very impressive since most O.E.M setups recirculate you dont hear it as much. Some offer diffrent sounds but the most important part is to set it up correct and not only will it sound better but it will also function correctly. What car do you have?

The Mark 2 with a 7M-GTE, well they can produce a great sound and some nice power. A good car to start off. Only con is the brakes and the wieght but it's a overall great car.

Agreed, but 89 would be a MKIII

MKI and MKII were N/A

A buddy of mine back in Iowa had one with minor mods, but a shimmed wastegate. That thing was wicked fast.

But, for some reason, he always seemed to blow head gaskets.

Had an 88 targa top Supra turbo. Great car. Heavy but at triple digit speed that equals stability. Make sure to check the head gasket. The 7M had trouble there. If memory serves, the factory head bolt torque was too low.

Yes the 7M-GTE always have that problem and yes the torque fo it was too low at factory. I like that model of year tho. And i actually have That^ magazine. That supra is powered by a 2JZ.
