Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) reported March 2012 U.S. sales of 136,317 units versus 121,141 units a year earlier, an increase of 12.5 percent, and a record for any month in the company's history.

Nissan Division sales also set a new sales record, up 14.8 percent for the month at 126,132 units.

They actually outsold Ford in March - That's a pretty big accomplishment!

If they can sell that many cars with a relatively "boring" lineup, imagine what they could do if they injected some excitement into the model line!

"Nissan Motor Co. said sales were up 12.5 percent to 136,317, making it the best month in Nissan’s history. Sales of the new Versa small car rose 41 percent, while Altima midsize sedan sales were up 27 percent. Nissan’s numbers got a boost from better-than-usual incentives, which TrueCar.com estimated rose 28 percent to $3,115 per vehicle. Nissan is trying to sell off its remaining Altima sedans before a new Altima goes on sale in July. Industry incentives averaged $2,440 per vehicle. "

They need a full redo of the Cube. The Kia Soul is killing it.

I'm actually disappointed that the new Versa is selling so well. For newer, young drivers, their initial experience with Nissan will be one of mediocrity and indifference.

My youngest brother just bought a Versa. Its the price that has the car selling. He's not thrilled with it but is calling it "just a car" until he finishes his last year of pharmacy and can move on to an Infiniti.

The redesigned Cube is proof that Nissan doesn't "get it." Prior generations were quirky as Hell and proud of it. For the US release, Nissan tamed it and softened it and rounded off all the edges so they wouldn't offend anyone. Problem with that approach, as Toyota has demonstrated over the course of decades, is that things that excite people also tend to offend people.

Selling a lot of cars is neat.

Selling cars people want to buy is better.

I guess it goes to show that us enthusiasts aren't in touch with the general car buying public.
