Compared with Autoweek's latest take on the Sentra, I think the description of a "crapmobile" is way too harsh. What the reviewers failed to mention is the firm handling at speed that the Nissan Global C chassis offers. Try that with a Chevy Aveo or HHR and you'll be sitting on your head! Interior room and storage space for the Sentra is maximized with the way the Sentra's compact suspension design, but that wasn't mentioned either. I'd agree that the 2.0 liter engine and CVT transmission are more than competent, but not exciting. But the Nissan Bluetooth connection is worth mentioning for being so easily utilized and accessible for hands-free cellphone use. And they failed to mention you can get Nissan's upgraded Nav system with the 'S' package they had for a few hundred dollars more!
OK, so the B16 model Sentra doesn't inspire me like the Z. But it remains a cut above what the mass market small sedans offer today. It's telling that I can never get one when I'm looking for a inexpensive car rental at the airport. Nissans like the Sentra and Rogue are were considered 'premium' vehicles at the last vendor I went to. Maybe they know something Autoweek doesn't?
