I thought the NEO in the NEO 6 was just because it was a new lower emission design. I don't think it gained VVL

Pretty sure even Neo 6's only had VTC aswell.

Once again, Nissan's "VTEC"-equivalent is not available in cars in America. As a former B13 owner though, I'd like to say thank god for VE swaps.

Actually, the SR16VE N1 from the Pulsar VZ-R N1 produced slightly more than 123hp/liter. This is still more than either model (2.0L or 2.2L) of the F20C in the S2000.

If, perchance, you were actually talking about the FJ20 Nissan engine from the 80s and not the F20C from the S2k, the SR16VE N1 still tops it.

The FJ20E produced ~150hp out of a naturally aspirated 2.0L, obviously not a match in terms of discrete output to either the N1 or the F20C.

Obviously, we can't compare the boosted variants as that's a completely different ballgame.

You might be thinking of the FJ24 from the Silvia 240RS, which had a very high discrete output indeed. Later versions of this engine had a dry-sump system and produced about 114hp/liter (277hp, 2.4L). This was not a production engine however, and it is not applicable. Even if so, the N1 and F20C are still higher.

Unless you look at rotaries.....again a different ballgame.

why would you need a variable exhaust cam? it's the intake side that produces the benefits.

HKS makes a Variable Cam system for the RB26DETT. It's call V-Cam.
