The Driving Sports TV team heads to the Cascade Mountains where they encounter a Christmas Helper that gives them a very special assignment. Which car will fail first? The 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport or the 2011 Nissan Rogue?

I believe the Rogue won. The video was a little silly, but the Rogue was a trooper. :dblthumb:

These two vehicles aren't really in the same class either, so it wasn't fair to critisize the Rogue for being a couple thousand bucks extra. The Outlander Sport is smaller and has very little cargo space, and it comes with a smaller engine, I believe a 2.0 is all you can get, it's a lighter vehicle so I wouldn't critisize the Rogue for the 2 mpg's less either.

No car is perfect. I thought they said nice things about the Rogue. I'm still proud to own mine. Was also impressed to see the AWD work in the snow and ice.

+1 on the cargo, i don't like how the seats don't fold flat...had a customer come in and we barely fit in two boxes with the seats folded, I know in the rogue they would have fit no problem...

the Outlander can come in a
A powerful 3.0L MIVEC engine with improved fuel economy, capable of an impressive 230 HP and a 1,588 kg (3,500 lbs) towing capacity.*Available for LS 4WD and X
as well as a 2.4L DOHC 16V MIVEC I-4-168hp

harryg you're correct about the Outlander powertrain, but this video looked at the "Outlander Sport" which is a completely different "compact crossover" which is only available with 2.0 L engine.

In Canada the Outlander Sport has a different name, it's called the Mitsubishi RVR. I can't understand why the US version would have a different name, and while I don't really like the "RVR" name at least it's different enough that you don't confuse it with the mid-size Outlander. Calling it the Outlander Sport implies it's the same vehicle but with a different trim level or options package.

Regardless, the RVR/Outlander Sport has only the one engine choice, a 2.0 L, and it is available with a manual 5-spd transmission which is nice to see, or a Sportronic CVT automatic just like the Rogue (not sure if it is literally the same CVT from Jatco, but a CVT nonetheless).

It's too bad they didn't go over these specs at the beginning of the video because they are very important, first off you're dealing with two vehicles in different classes and with quite different size engines, 2.0 vs. 2.5 but both were equipped with CVT transmission and AWD.

The better and more fair comparision would have been the Outlander AWD CVT with 2.4L vs. Rogue 2.5L AWD CVT as the specs are much similar.

It's the exact same CVT:

http://www.jatco.co.jp/ENGLISH/CVT/JF011E.html

And they make the conventional automatic version as well:

Jatco merged with Mitsubishi's 'Diamondmatic' transmission division in 2003. So for all intents, many of Mitsu's automatic transmissions are now made by Jatco.
