We have a 2008 Nissan Rogue and on my way to work it started acting funny when i pushed on the gas pedal while driving. There was no weird noises and no dash board lights came on. The car did a shuddering feeling when i would press on the gas while driving. I made it to work, after work I started the car and everything seemed fine. The car went into reverse and I backed up, i put in drive and it started to jerk again slightly when i pushed on the gas. I drove further down the road and every time i pushed on the pedal it would shudder. I came to a stop sign and this time when i pushed on the gas there was nothing, the engine was running but the car would not go. The RPM s would not go passed a 1000. No dash lights came on. I put the car back into park and tried to reeve the engine but the engine would not go pass 1000 RPMS so i shut the car off. I started the car again and the engine RPM's were back to normal. I put the car in drive and continued down the road. There still was that same shuddering feeling when i pressed the gas though. I came to another stop sign. This time when I went to accelerate the car did not want to go, then the car finally stalled and the Check engine lite came on. I started the car again and the engine was normal but when i put the car in gear this time there was nothing, no reverse, no drive, the engine would reeve but the car would not go. The tow guy came and we put it in neutral and pushed it so it could be towed and once we got it on the truck the car would shift and stay in park. The car would also shift back into neutral to come off the tow truck and then shift back into park again, but would not move once shifted in drive or reverse. Anybody have any problems like this and what kind of solutions can you help us with?

Unfortunately the CVT transmission in the Rogue is a common problem and it sounds like yours may be failing. How many miles do you currently have on it?

If it's less than 120,000 miles, then you will be covered under the extended warranty Nissan added to all CVT transmissions on vehicles 2010 and older. You can read more at the following link as to what is covered and what you need to do: http://www.nissanassist.com/ProgramDetails.php?menu=2

I posted this response to your post in the 8-speed transmission thread also:

Carl, I had a nearly identical problem with my 2004 Murano. The transmission was "burnt up" as the Nissan tech put it to me. Get that thing to Nissan if you are still in warranty and you should get a new transmission with no problem. Unfortunately for me, I was literally 18 miles (not 18-thousand, not 18-hundred...18 MILES!) out of warranty so I didn't get a new one. Good luck!
