I got an SL AWD with Premium and Leather package. How do I know I have the block heater?

It'll be listed on the window sticker if you still have it, regadless all Rogue's sold in Canada come with block heaters, which you pay for of course (correct em if I'm wrong). The owner's manual will show you where to find it and how to use it etc..

I split this off as a separate post as it's a different topic.

RO-G, welcome to the NICOClub forums! If this is the second time I welcomed you, then don't worry!

There is a wealth of information here. I hope you find it useful. Check out the Official Rogue FAQ for answers to the most common questions.

Now to answer your question:

Kerrton is correct, all Rogue's sold in Canada come with a block heater. The cord for the block heater can be found tied up on the left side of the engine compartment near the windshield washer fluid reservoir. You can untie and route this cord wherever you want. I fastened mine to the lower part of the grille so it can be accessed without popping the hood.

You can read up on all the unique features and differences of the Canadian model vs. the US model Rogue's here:

Rogue Model Differences - Canada vs US + model year changes

Among the unique to Canada features:

- Heated Side Mirrors, operates with the rear defroster switch (all models)- Low Washer Fluid indicator light (all models)- Daytime running lights (all models)- Mudflaps/Splash guards front & rear (all models)- Heated Side mirrors/defrosters, color keyed (all models)- Heated cloth seats (SL trim)- Full sized spare with matching alloy wheel (some models)- Mid-Level Audio system with 6CD changer, MP3 playback, 6 speakers, and steering wheel controls (premium pack only)

Could anyone that has the "Canadian" version, with the block heater help out? I want to get one for my Rogue, but Nissan USA doesn't have one! What type of heater is it (magnetic heater onto the block, coolant heater, etc)? What is it rated at (how many watts)? Maybe a pic of it?

Winters in Michigan have been getting colder and snowier again , and since i have a really short (1mile) drive to work, I'd like to be able to have it already warm when i get in it..

Thanks!

I did some research in the Rogue service manual:

The OEM block heater is in the engine block (accessible from the outside) and heats the coolant. It threads into the block so I imagine models not equipped with the heater simply have a threaded plug instead. It's not in a very accessible location as it's located just below/behind the water pump which is underneath the alternator. Sorry I cannot provide any pictures.

Nissan does not publish any specs on the heater itself. Typically block heaters are in the 500-750W range.

I've posted part numbers below. If you cannot source a block heater in the US, then you might try to contact an Canadian Nissan dealer.

As for options besides OEM...

Magnetically attached heaters are not going to work as the block is entirely made of aluminum. Magnets won't stick.

Phillips & Temro (AKA ZeroStart) makes a block heater specifically for the QR25DE motor used in the Rogue. Here are the specs:

Part no: 3100007 (comes complete with heater and cord)Replacement cord part no: 3600005 Type: 30mm threadedApplication: - 2002-2007 Nissan L4 - 2.5L (QR25DE) (FWD & RWD) - 1995-2001 Nissan/Infiniti V6 - 3.0L (VQ30DE) (FWD)- 2002-2009 Nissan V6 - 3.5L (VQ35DE) (FWD)- 2001-2009 Nissan V6 - 3.5L (VQ35DE) (RWD)- 2002-2009 Nissan/Infiniti V6 - 3.5L (VQ35DE, VQ35HR) (RWD)- 2004-2009 Nissan/Infiniti V8 - 5.6L (VK56DE)- 2007-2009 Infiniti V6 - 3.7L (VQ37VHR)- 1990-1996 Infiniti V8 - 4.5L - 1997-2000 Infiniti V8 - 4.1L- 2001-2009 Infiniti V8 - 4.5L

Note: The 2007 QR25DE motor should be the same as the '08-'10 QR25DE. Nissan did not make any changes.

Hope this helps!

Update:

I have not confirmed this with my local dealer, but here is the OEM Nissan block heater part # that I managed to find online:

Heater: 11001-6P700 - Cost: ~$150 USDCord: 24076-EC300 - Cost: ~$50 USDSealing O-Ring: ???Fitment: Late model NIssan and Infiniti with the following engines: QR25DE, VQ35DE, VQ40DE, VK56DE

NOTE: I do not guarantee the accuracy of the part number or whether it's available from a US Nissan dealer.

The Zerostart model I mentioned in the previous post is substantially less expensive and should work as well as OEM. Phillips & Temro specialize in cold start technology including heavy duty diesel applications.

Thanks for all the info Philipa!I had already checked with Nissan USA, and they don't carry it I did crawl up into the engine last night and found where it goes... yikes! not easy access.. you're right, it is just a threaded plug on mine.i emailed P&T to find out where I can get one of these..

I'll make sure to do a quick write-up if I end up getting one.

Edit: I checked the block heater on my Rogue today and it has the Pyroil name on the extension cord.

NAPA Auto Parts carries the Pyroil block heater... it's likely identical to the one Nissan has been installing from the factory:

Fitment:Same as the OEM Nissan and Phillips and Temro above. They have the Rogue listed and a nice photo if you read the link below:

I've added this to the FAQ. Lots of great information!

The US models unfortunately did not come with block heaters, it's not even available as an option. This is unfortunate as many northern US states get just as much cold weather as Canada.

joshjv, please let us know if you manage to install the block heater. I realize it's pretty involved as you have to partially drain the coolant, remove the plug, install the heater, and refill the cooling system. If you manage to get a few pics and do a writeup, we can submit it as a technical article and you can get a custom title on NICO:

zer...icles

Update: Read my post above regarding the Pyroil block heater which is available from NAPA Auto Parts. This appears to the be same block heater installed in my Rogue.

So, as it turns out, clearance btwn the plug and h2o pump is not enough.. This means altenator & water pump need to be removed. I reviewed the FSM, no too bad.. But, wondering about the gaskets on the water pump; will I be able to reuse them, or do I need to plan to have replacements on hand??Thanks!

Always replace gaskets. Never reuse them.

Note: The bold 'X''s shown on the diagrams in the service manual indicate 'Always replace after every disassembly'. ie. Do not re-use.

Also, be careful about removal of the accessory drive belt/tensioner. The hex bolt on the front is only supposed to be torqued CLOCKWISE to release belt tension. DO NOT loosen it by going counter-clockwise... otherwise you will remove the tensioner and have to replace the entire unit along with the mounting bracket. Please read the manual EM-15 for more info.
