Greetings fellow Roguers! :cool:

Please help me with the following;

i) Has anyone considered playing "mp3" files from the Navigation
SD-card? And I am thinking here to myself that in theory one could acquire a larger capactiy sd-card, copy the navigation files to it along with some "mp3" files & utilize the card for dual purpose. Thoughts? :confused:

ii) Is there a way to set by default the Navigation to "off", when you turn on a Rogue that has navigation?

Thank you for all your time sir's. :yesnod

regards,
gam101.

I believe the SD-card is encrypted?
Have you tried using a USB thumb drive in the center console? there is a usb port there, that can play MP3's
you can pick up a 16GB USB stick for less than $10...

@ jcircus : Thank you for the prompt reply. Hmmm....yep, it is likely that the sd-card is encrypted or formatted to non-standard file systems.

Regarding the USB, I have not given it is a try. However, I think it is only for charging USB devices. Also, pluging in a USB memory stick is a sure way to break that port if you pile stuff into the arm-rest compartment. Well, that's where my USB port is anyway. Will still give the USB port a try to play MP3's for confirmation on its function.

Any idea on the navigation default turn off?

Thanks again.

I use a micro usb drive - http://www.kingston.com/us/usb/personal_business#dtmc
It is very small, and so far no problems breaking it. I can confirm it does work for playing MP3's... You can even browse through the folders using the touch screen nav system.

EDIT - select it by cycling the "AUX" button, which switches between "line" and "USB", which are both located in the center console.

@jcircus :

Thanks for that awesome info. Yep, I think I will be investing in that USB stick. :yesnod

Now.....if I could figure out a way to avoid pressing that brightness button on the console time to turn off the navigation, each time I start the Rogue. :facepalm:

As has allready been mentioned, the usb port does play mp3 files. Fill your drive up with your favorite CDs and they will appear on the nav screen when in aux mode. You can then touch to move thru them/play them random....ect. Also you can use a USB extention cord to plug into the port so your drive is easy to get to rather than being buried under stuff in the console.

I wish it would play some sort or video file as well.....but no joy there :frown:

Here is what I propose.....It is all software! :cool: Can we figure out a way to access & reprogram the software for the LCD panel? :squint:

I am willing to contribute my coding skills. We can then have total access to the capabilities of the LCD; play movies, access the SD-card for files, etc.

***All assuming of-course there is no encryption involved! :facepalm:

Well, first of all, SD cards are "Secure Digital" cards. It got this name because it has build-in features for copy right protection. If you copy the content to another SD card (larger or not), it won't work. The GPS will ignore the map data because the serial number and key does not match.

As other people already suggested, the best way to plug a USB drive in is to use an extension cord. Access is much easier. If you use ipods, you can just use the ipod cable.

Every time the car starts up, the head unit will resume the last mode you were in when you turn the car off. i.e. If you were listening to USB songs, it will remain in that page. It won't show you the map or navigation menu. You don't need to turn it off. If you were listening to the radio, it will starts in the radio page.

So over the weekend I gave the USB memory stick a try to play MP3's. Well, no dough!!! :tisk:

I am sure I missed something. :facepalm: Here is the stick....

As far as the FAT is concerned, I tried FAT32 & exFAT.

My steps were;

i) Insert the USB stick in the USB port in the center console. (verified that it was in the correct way)
ii) Turn on the Rogue & click on the AUX button on the main console.

To verify that the AUX is working, I plugged my MP3 player to the AUX connection in the center console. And yes, that
blasted the MP3's on the speakers. :)

What did I miss guys? Please help. Thank you. :confused:

try pressing the "AUX" button again. it cycles between LINE and USB with each press. this got me too, as it was connecting to the line input and not the USB port. took me awhile to figure it out :confused:

If the unit is powered on before you plug the usb in, it will switch to the usb play mode automatically.

Sorry fellas! It no worky! :facepalm:

Again, after inserting the USB stick, turning on the Rogue, and pressing the "AUX" button twice, the center console did not display a folder list and neither did the MP3's play.

For the record, I think pressing the AUX button more then once in unnecessary because according to the manual, the USB plays automatically. Also, when I press the "Source" on the steering-wheel when the "AUX" mode is active, the next mode is then automatically selected. In other words, no "cycling" thru line-in & USB. Of course, I did not have my MP3 player plugged in.

Well, the next thing that I can think of is trying to clean the USB port with a compressed air can & then trying a different USB stick for any compatibility issues.

Thoughts? :confused:

yeah try another USB stick.. if that does not work then i would suggest taking it to a dealer, and try a new rogue on the lot? if it works on another rogue, then you know for sure yours is broke!

Are your MP3 files actually .MP3, and not Apple's AAC or something else?

Not sure about Rogues (mine is an '08 with no USB port) but I know the Infinitis I've rented won't play anything but true MP3 files on a pure disk.

Had this problem with my head unit. Turns out the USB function of the unit was defective so the dealer replaced the head unit for free. When you plug in a thumb drive to the USB port, the head unit automatically recognizes it and will begin playing the first song in the playlist (after reading the files).

Take your Rogue to the dealership along with a couple of thumb drives with music files on them. Won't take but a couple of minutes to ascertain the problem. :dblthumb:

Make sure your USB stick is working and also the port is working by plugging in a charging cable to your phone and the port. Then format the stick FAT16 not 32. Then try again.
