Depends on what the lip seal seals. Most destroy removing them so there.
'Vehicle throws codes related to accelerator pedal position sensor. I didn't work on that so I am stupefied.'
If the ECM expects the car to move in reverse and it doesn't it may easily assume the accelerator pedal is not working.
Beyond that the complete lack of post clarity explains much there, if the work got approached in the same haphazard way.
Initial code was P1777.
I ran the full gamut of checks from the service manual and it was very clear we had a bad stepper motor
So I purchased and installed just the stepper motor into the initial/original control valve
The initial code P1777 did not go away, instead it stayed back and it brought along with it a bunch of additional codes related to the accelerator pedal position sensor - to be particular, these codes:
P2122
P2127
p2138
There are only two procedures in the service manual that I have not so far followed...removing and reinstalling the lip seal, see pictures

the second procedure that I haven't followed is...inspection after installation

this is all the relevant information I could find on the open internet on lip seals and transmissions:

I am available to provide any further clarification..sorry for the brevity of the initial post
