Hi All,

I have a 2007 Nissan Rogue with 56k miles. We just moved from Seattle, WA to Chicago, IL and the mpg's just dropped like crazy! During mixed driving in Seattle the Rogue averaged 25.2 mpg but in Chicago it is averaging 20mpg. This is even after I put in 93 octane... Really confused as to what may be the problem. Could it be the gas formulation (but 5mpg?!), stuck air filter, dirty fuel system or etc?

Help pls! The dealer wants $200 to just look at this.

Thanks,
Tom

Cold air gives you more power so less MPG.

Octane grade doesn't effect gas mileage at all. Doesn't do anything just stick with 87 oct.

Thanks Tai. I was expecting some mileage loss due to the gas formulation and cold air but we are talking about 20%? Is that something you encounter, seeing that you are from Iowa.

Thanks,
Tom

Perhaps the new area has the 10% ethanol in all their gas? :poke:

And Seattle didn't. :gotme

The mileage decrease could also be due to driving patterns. There have been a few other Rogue owners complaining of ~20mpg fuel mileage. Usually it's a combination of short trips, hilly terrain, or lots of stop and go driving.

In my area (Cambridge, Ontario, Canada... about 100mi north of Erie, PA), the winter gas formulations combined with longer warm up times in cold weather usually decrease fuel mileage. Usually I see a ~10% decrease. Chicago's weather isn't much different from where I live. If they use winter gas formulations (esp. when combined with ethanol), it's quite possible to see a decrease in fuel economy vs. other areas.

The reason for the winter gas formulation is to promote easier starting in cold weather and reduce the chance of fuel freezing in the gas lines. The downside is a reduction in fuel economy. This fuel is typically sold in the colder area of the northern US and much of Canada.

Wasn't 2008 the first model year in the US?

From what I can tell, Illinois does mandate E10.

I did more city driving in the summer I got 23.3 mpg, avg temp. 90F
Winter I did less city and more HWY driving and now I'm getting 21mpg, avg temp 35F
I'd imagine Chicago is colder than Iowa by now

Not sure about the Rogue losing mpg. I did get better gas mileage with 93 octane when I had an Altima SER. Different engine I know. I get about the same winter and summer in South Carolina.

The Rogue's first model year in the US and Canada was 2008
