WASHINGTON - Nissan Motor Co. said Wednesday it was recalling more than 200,000 vehicles in the U.S. and overseas to fix a sensor system that could affect the car's passenger side air bag.

Nissan said the recall includes 140,000 Nissan Altima cars from the 2007-2008 model years. It also involves 2007-2008 model years of the Infiniti EX35, G35 Sedan, G37 and the Nissan 350Z, Murano and Rogue.

I called my dealer this morning and nothing has been issued for Canadian vehicles as of yet. But they were aware of the U.S. recall a week ago.

Does 09 Rogue make CVT rattles? I was planning to buy a 08, but the CVT issue looks really bad.

Nothing posted yet on the Transport Canada website. Here is the link to the recall database:

http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety...e.asp

I would check back periodically to see if a similar recall to the one in the US has been added.

I made an appointment last week for tomorrow to have the seat sensor replaced. I took the Rogue in a few months back to have the fuel pump replaced because of long cranking times.

Nissan has just released a Tech Bulletin regarding this recall:

NTB08095Nissan is conducting a Voluntary Recall Campaign to inspect the Occupant classification System (OCS) Varistor located in the front passenger seat cushion. A special tool will be used for the inspection. If the inspection results are OK, no further action is necessary. If the special tool indicates an OCS Varistor issue, the seat cushion assembly will be replaced. We anticipate that less than 1% of the affected vehicles will require seat cushion replacement. See this bulletin for further detail.

I do not have the full bulletin. Please contact your dealer for more information

Do the TSB list the VINs affected or do we have to call a dealer to find out if our car is affected?

There is no VIN range. Just a manufacturing year: 2008

You can determine the year by the VIN number. It's the 10th digit from the left.

ie.

JN8AS58V08Wxxxxxx

J = JapanN = Nissan8 = Multiporpose VehicleA = QR25DE engineS = S Chassis = Rogue5 = Model change, the Rogue is Nissan model code S358 = HatchbackV = AWD, T=FWD0 = Checksum digit8 = Manufacturing year = 2008W = Plant = Kyushu, Japanxxxxxx = Serial number

I took mine to a dealer yesterday because the light for the air direction isn't coming on anymore. I asked about this and he said there isn't a recall for my car yet.

Is Nissan doing this in waves by vehicle/year? Or was I given the runaround?

Update:

Transport Canada has now issued the recall in Canada:

Make: NISSANModel: ROGUEAffected Year(s): 2008Units Affected: 12912TC Recall #: 2008363Recall Details:In certain vehicles, a varistor in the Occupant Classification System (OCS) control unit located in the passenger seat cushion may have been manufactured out of specification. Under certain conditions, this could cause an interruption of signal between the OCS and the Air bag control unit (ACU). This could result in the passenger air bag being suppressed. The (red) supplemental air bag warning light would flash & the (amber) front passenger air bag status light would illuminate to alert the vehicle operator, however in case of a crash a suppressed air bag could result in personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will test the signal between the OCS & ACU and if necessary will replace the seat cushion containing OCS hardware with a new one manufactured to specification.

Yes, the recall only affects 2008 models.

I now have a copy of the entire TSB from Nissan. I have attached the first page and a copy of the recall letter. The remainder of the TSB I have not posted is the repair itself.

Please note:

- This recall may only affect a small number of vehicles. Not every Rogue will exhibit or have this problem. Nissan suggests that less than 1% of the vehicles produced will have a problem that will require the OCS sensor to be replaced.- Nissan Corporate should be sending you the recall notice in the mail, do not expect a phone call or mail from the dealership.- It is your responsibility to act on the recall and have your vehicle inspected.

I just got my recall notice in this mornings mail. It said that a faulty airbag sensor could be identified by a passenger airbag light that continues to flash beyond the 7 seconds it does at start up.

I just got my recall letter yesterday. I guess my Rogue will have to make a visit to doctor dealership for a checkup. They said that they have a special tool to check to see if the vehicle has a problem.

I just received a Christmas card from Nissan: When you open it, it plays a Christmas song with horns .

My toddler likes it a lot but doesn't have the patience to listen to the all "song": She just opens-closes it: way more fun like that.

so you are saying the Christmas card had nothing to do with the recall or this thread?

I took my Rogue in for its 6 month service today. I mentioned about this recall notice and they checked my vehicle and it is not affected by this recall.

Except that it comes from Nissan, you are right, this has nothing to do with the thread

But with the CD to get 10 songs for free I received when I bought the car and this Christmas card, I just received nice things from Nissan , no recall letter, no letter telling me they don't care about me and my rattling car.

I just got my 'important' letter in the mail yesterday. Glad to hear kids like it, maybe my nephew will enjoy the song.

No recall notice yet...

I received my recall notice in the mail yesterday. I bought my SL AWD on November 17th, 2007 and it was only on the lot for about 2 weeks. Is there any way to find the MFR date of my Rogue?

I need to take the car in anyway for the AM radio having static/dropouts when I hit bumps, so I will have them address it then. Also, I hope they can take care of the shifter bezek squeak that happens in the cold.

It is on the sticker at the bottom of the driver door threshold where you have also the P/N of the car and the information for the pressure of the tires.

There is a Nissan Tech Bulletin for the shifter squeak:

NTB08031 - SB 08 Rogue; Creaking Noise from Console FinisherIF YOU CONFIRM There is a creaking noise coming from the console finisher assembly when making turns. ACTIONS Remove the console finisher assembly. Put tape from the squeak and rattle kit on the 9 ribs located on the upper half of the console finisher assembly.

This should be a simple warranty repair.
