I have a 1994 Nissan 4X4 2.4 liter with a manual transmission and I need to replace the rear main seal, does anyone know if there is any information on the steps I should take to make it the easiest? do I need to take the transfer case off? or can I pull the transmission with the transfer case attached? Things like do I unbolt the cross member before the transmission?ThanksRob

You can pull it off with the x-fer still attached. Keep in mind that you will need to take the torsion bars off so you can get the transmission out.

I basically broke the torque on everything, then pulled the torsion bars and that cross member, took out the front and rear drive shaft, etc.

When you take off the wiring, don't forget the CAS wire at the top where it mates to the block. You may as well put a new clutch in while you have it apart.

I suggest at least a Chiltons for a project like this, I used the Nissan FSM. You will want a transmission jack since it weighs quite a bit.

Thanks for your help, I just got the parts today and I'm going to tackle it this weekend, I wasn't expecting the torsion bars but Oh Well it never can just be easy. I'm glad you gave me a heads up on the wire on top of the transmission I would of ripped it out.
