"Toyota Motor Corp, came under Jackson's fire for putting out an advertisement that features a smiling black man with the likeness of a gold RAV4 sport-utility vehicle embedded on one of his upper front teeth."

Juvenile crap like this is the reason we in the US can't sit down and have a candid conversation about the race issue. On the other hand it's funny as crap to watch JJ make a fool of himself.

i don't get it. there were some times in history when the cat did do some good for the nation and whatnot, but lately, it seems like all he's interested in is publicity. kinda like how J.Ho gets married a couple of times a year. just keeping the name in the news, i guess.:rolleyes

but what pisses me off the most is that circus sh1t like this takes the spotlight off of real race related situations and tends to undermine them. how can we as a nation look to properly address serious issues involving discrimination if we have to keep being subjected to this kinda nonsense? all this does is desensitize(sp?) us and cause us to be less likely to take future incidents seriously. it's kinda like all the fake rape accusations. after a while, when someone tries to come forward, people's first response will be "yeah, right. whatever" and it only ends up hurting the REAL victims.

anyway, i think that propaganda-driven "crusades" will only put a wrench in the works of race relations. we can't heal the hurts and right the wrongs if someone is gonna cry foul every chance they get just so that they can more press time.

sorry for the "War & Peace" sized post guys. it's just that this ish really gets to me...:tisk:

Nah its straight man, I'm almost positive all of us feel the same way. This is just JJ's way of keeping his publicity level up. Pathetic really.

What a moron.

I think that commercial is funny as hell - I'm sure if the guy with the "blingin" teeth felt exploited, he'd have decined the opportunity.

I'd like to ask Rev. Jackson why there isn't a White guy with a gold Q45 in his tooth receiving equal airtime? :D

I cannot say that I've seen the studies that Rev. Jackson referred to - and will not say that he does not get carried away at times - but if true, it seems an pertinent issue to me.

As for the teeth, thats trivial and funny.

Yeah seriously. If the findings are true, wouldn't it be the fault of the dealerships and perhaps the customer's credit as that's the only way I can see people getting money back if they're financing and what not? SingleCamSam, I agree with you completely, but first there has to be a realization that there's still a racism problem that needs to be addressed. Personally I don't think there's much serious activism in the area and with bills like the anti-affirmative action that just went up on the ballot in CA. I fail to see how the problem of discrimination is gone from America's racist behavior both past and present.

Sil40_Mayhem, I agree with your last statement as well. It's not just a race issue with Bush's crusade now, it's become a battle of religion. He even says "god is on our side" and what not. Even though there is the racial profiling of anyone that is looks like they're from the middle east or Pakistan or of that region. If I were strongly religous, I'd take offense to him using god's name to justify his war that he's obviously waging for his daddy and oil.

Not to say I don't support the soilders though, I support them, but not the dumbass president. I've had too many friends in the corps. get sent out to the middle east and I don't want to see them come back home in a box. So I guess my thoughts are biased in the matter. Sorry bout the long rant btw but this kinda stuff gets to me.

Jessie Jackson also needs to get a clue that the gold teeth is a stereotype that those "rappers" and the media is pushing. So no wonder I see a bunch of guys walking around with gold teeth and the necklaces that have a $ on it although the "diamonds" on them are really just glass. That guy needs to get a grip and deal with the problem of what's propagating the sterotype in the first place.

Wow, I think that's the first time I've strongly agreed with something someone posted while simultaneously disagreeing strongly with another part of their post. 180fan, right on about JJ needing to get a clue about who is really pushing the image! I disagree respectfully with your criticism of the president and his policies though :) Jessie Jackson just want's attention imo.

hey it's all good man. We've all got reasons for our own beliefs and it's good to have criticism of each others opinions as it creates a more open and diverse thought on the matter.

I bet if the man in that picture was white, Jackson would ***** that Nissan doesn't use African-Americans in their advertisements.

Even though I 100% disagree with your part about the President, I do 100% agree with your part on JJ.

Ain't America great? Friends and family can have completely different views, and still not kill each other :)
