Anyone who owns a newer nissan or has experince with push starts: recently ive discovered a problem with my 07 nissan altima and its push start.

i press the brake and push start but the car doesn't turn on, it only goes to ACC and when i try again it goes to the ON possistion but never starts. I have to try several times before the engine actually starts.

anyone else experience this?? whats going on?im going 2morrow to nissan to get it checked out

I had the same problem once, it freaked me out and I got so mad, it felt like the car battery was dead but it wasn't and just in case I had my neighbor jumped it but still nothing. My dad tried it once and it worked it. Mine was w/ an 08

Sounds like a faulty brake sensor. Take it to Nissan and tell them what's up, they should fix the brake sensor under warranty.

+1

That's what I was thinking, after you said that pressing the button just goes to "ACC" then "ON" then "OFF" but doesn't start. Bit of a lame issue if you have no manual way to start the car. Maybe on the next ones they can design a back up "turn key" start aside from the push button to make sure this crap doesn't happen for any reason.

also, try checking the battery voltage... especially since you have a sound system...

I have noticed that our cars are very particular about battery voltage. What may not seem like a battery issue may very well be that... I had this same issue a number of times , but that's when I use to run all of my TV's in my car on while driving all the time (too lazy to turn them all off)

anyway, things like TV's, neon lights, sound systems put a serious drain on the electrical system... for our car, the voltage needs to be spot on in order for all of the cars functions to work... my car wouldn't even let me turn the car off one night after a car meet because I had drained the battery so much showing off the system... I know it sounds funky, but EVERYTHING in the car seems like its tied into a battery voltage sensor, and our cars go absolutely nuts when the voltage is off...

hope this helps...also, my advice to you woyuld be to

1. get a real aftermarket battery, a kinetik HC 1800 is a perfect replacement regarding fit, but these batteries are meant for cars with sound systems...

2. Get an additional battery, or batcap for the trunk (don't get a capacitor, they do little to actually benefit a sound system)

3. do a big three upgrade in your engine bay!

One of the things I love about the triple dog Gt tuner is that I can now monitor my battery voltage, and I've seen first hand how the system, and add on devices affect the battery voltage!

MY CAR LIVES AGAIN!

its sooo weird...I bring it there and while im waiting for a shuttle i see a nissan guy going into my car and haivng trouble starting it... he is sitting there trying to start it for atleast 10 min.

I eventually leave. around 1 hour at the car being at a shop i get a phone call and the lady on the phone says that "there is nothing wrong" so come and pick it up. I go to nissan and i get an invoice that shows that nothing, yes NOTHING was done to that car. I get in my car and it starts! I atleast turned it on and off 5 times today without any problems.

They MUST of done something....

They must HAVE done something, maybe. Maybe it was a simple plug to the brake sensor that got loose, or perhaps the mechanic really didn't do anything, in which case the problem might come back. Hopefully it's fixed though.

obviosuly they must have done something b/c i wasn't able to start it AT ALL!! like i could sit in my car for 1 hour and nothing.

The lady told me that, yes at first it was hard to start then the mechanic pushed super hard on the brake and it started.. i didn't ask questions.

thx for the faith, i hope the problem is solved too

Did you take it to Oakville? I had several bad experiences there with my last car. I find them a bit better at Burlington or Woodchester in Mississauga.

And BTW CoupeVQ35CVT, even with a key to turn, there's still a clutch or brake interlock, so the same thing would happen.

Actually, you're right about the brake issue, at least shifting out of park in an auto. But you don't need to press in the break to start up an auto transmission car, not the variety of makes I've driven anyway (Chevy, Olds, Nissans, Dodge, Ford). And since we're talking about ignition that's what I meant.

However getting the car out of park/into gear without the brake sensor would be an issue still, so I agree.

Thats a faulty break sensor.

I had the same exact issue. I was actually stranded 2 hours from my house and had to have it towed to the dealership.
