I have a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder and recently I noticed that my trunk will not stay open by itself. I have to physically hold it up or it will just shut right back down. What is causing this? My guess is the hydraulic lifts but I'm not sure. Just wondering if anyone had experience with this issue.

Thanks in advance.

Update: Just wanted to post an update.

I purchased the two lifts (support struts is what they went by) for $40 (shipping included)

Installed them today, and all is well

Thanks

It's the hydraulic lifts. You might only have to replace one of them.

You could probably get em from your local auto parts store. Call around and find out.

mine are starting to fail to. its the cold weather, dont replace them until you see if there is a difference in the spring. When my car has been in a garage for 2+ hours they open normally

First of all don't listen to Nala, he's an idiot.

Second of all you probably do need to replace them. I need to replace mine as well and in the next day or two I'll pull one off of the door and the hatch window and find the right sizes. I can order them through my shop.

They aren't hydraulic (oil pressure), they are pneumatic (gas pressure), and it's entirely possible that they will work better
warm than cold. But they SHOULD work when it's cold, so if they work warm but not cold, that's a sign they've lost some
internal pressure and are getting tired.

Price difference is the inlaid platinum Nissan logo.
