Hey guys, I am looking at picking up a WD21 Pathfinder and was looking to see if there are any real options for converting to diesel as the VG30(i/E) really sucks for fuel economy and it isn't that powerful. I am already aware of the SD33 and the TD27 but it isn't easy finding those engines. I looked at the 4BT but it weighs almost twice as much as the VG. I was also knocking around the idea of a Mercedes diesel as well. I am not sure how any of these engines would impact towing capacity either. Anyone able to help?

You'd be better off taking this discussion to NPORA for more technical/mechanical suggestions, but the change you're talking about is on par with just about any engine swap. It'll take a lot of research, resources, parts, and custom work...at a price tag that very likely exceeds the value of the WD21.

What are your vehicle requirements/priorities here? SUV? 4WD? MPG? Power? Price? Some older (early 2000's) VW Touaregs had V10 diesels...which surely trumps any power from the VG3X motor, but probably not any better on mileage. Jeep had a 2005-2006 Liberty CRD...I4 diesel, couple on eBay right now.
