I had my patty transmission flushed recently and soon after my performance degraded - I can see Engine power ( as the rpm is rising well) but it is not translating to speed - I took it back to the place where I had the transmission flushed(Midas) as I was suspect of the oil they had used.

I understand the recommeded is 75W-85. The Midas guys said they used 75-90 BG Syn Gear Oil which they claim is acceptable - is that true?

They test drove the car and they say I need to replace my Clutch now - Should I believe this - they say the degradation in performance is nothing to do with the transmission flush as the clutch is a dry part and the fluid replacement done as part of the transmission flush has nothing to do with the clutch behaving badly as this is a manual transmission - IS that right? what type of costs should I expect with this replacement? They said $1100-1200 - seems a little too high.

Please advice.

Welcome to NICO!

For the fluid, the manual calls for a GL-4 gear oil. as long as its GL-4 and ONLY GL-4, the minor difference in viscosity ratings doesnt mean much.. Ill give you an example... IN my differential it calls for GL-5 80w90, however, im currently running a 75w140.. It works perfect, however if i was to use a GL-4 (or anything else other than GL-5) it would be a bad idea, regardless of viscosity!

I dont think that the oil change (its not a flush on an MT, just a drain/refill) had anything to do with it, however, im also not a believer of coincidences....

Im wondering if you just need to have it adjusted... Even so, $1000 for a clutch replacement does sound a bit high, thats something that most shops should be able to do... not really anything special about it on the pathy vs any other truck...

Thank you for clarifying on the type of oil to be used for transmission. It now makes a lot more sense.

Also, would the mechanic need to take the the whole clutch assembly out to determine whether the clutch needs to be adjusted or replaced. The question is if the assembly needs to be opened fully to determine replacement vs adjustment the labor costs are probably the same and the only difference in the final cost is the part costs.

Please clarify.

I am getting it analyzed by the dealer tomorrow so, I will keep you all posted.

An experienced tech familiar with how this car should drive should be able to "feel" whats going on...

Could just need a litlte adjustment.... I would thikn only being 5 years old (miles?) that the clutch should still have some life in it.
