Nissan pathfider revolutions problem

I have a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder. A couple of months ago it started having problems with the revolutions. The thing is that when i'm driving the revolutions start to go up and then down. Is a very fast change. Then it continues working fine. I have taking it to the shop but they don't find anything wrong. And the check engine light does not come up. This morning i smell gas while i was driving and when i got out of it the smell was there too. Any help? Thanks.
