My upper timing chain guide broke, so after taking it out i head up to my local nissan dealership and talk to the parts guy about replacing it, he said that it was unnecessary, is this true?

yeah... there was a recall on the upper guide, and the lower upper guide... i took mine out last month... you might want to search for a thread on how to take the other one out, because it sounds like it might be close to breaking too... and that's bad... plastic and metal pieces in your oil pan aren't good.

hmmm, possible Labor Day weekend project?

If I screw up the car, my parents are out of town, and they are leaving the Toyota Matrix with me, perfect!

only thing you gotta remember is to mark your distributor, and get it back in the exact same way.. or else you'll have problems :P

Oh, cummon DRFT, you know you wanna get side one too. It's easy as pie, especially with the writeup an' perty li'l pictures. Why do today what you can put off till tomorrow? Cause your 240 deserves better. Or maybe I'll steal her away and show her how a real man'll treat her.

Me, I did the top, side, and didn't stop till I'd replaced the entire timing set. Top and bottom. Then I fished out the ground plastic and metal pieces out of the oil pan. Don't wait till it's too late. Smokey the Bear says, 'Only YOU can prevent engine damage.'

Don't hate, procreate.

My 240 has 150,xxx miles on it but no timing chain rattle. I just bought it last month. Is it possible that it's fine or did the last owner most likely have it removed? She took the car to the dealer for every repair.

I would think they would have definitely do it, since it was a tech bulletin. I would think the mechanics at dealer would have dumped them.

Just finished reading another thread about this!

Check it out!

I am collecting some data about timing on the KA24DE. I am still trying to figure it out, especially when I go turbo.

they could have already broken off.. might wanna take the valve cover off and check.

If it's that cheap, it's probably not OEM. Right? Should I take that risk having that aftermarket part installed in the heart of the car: the engine?

About 400 from courtesy nissan. I don't trust buying off of ebay.

I have a timing chain set for sale, genuine Nissan OEM parts. Paypal me $175 and its yours. Shipping will be hardly anything for this stuff, and I have the "unnessisary" upper chain guides if your really want them.

email to [email protected] anyone is interested...

I really don't think my chain is ready to go. I don't hear the warning sounds anyways.
