My gf needed a cheap farm truck so she purchased an 86 D21 2.4L in need of some work. The truck battery was shot and requires jumping so I am installing a new one for her. After removing the battery, I noticed there is a large ground connection floating in the engine bay. It does not reach to the starter (which does have a small ground) and I can't seem to figure out where it should attach. I don't want to install the new battery without having this connected.Pictures are linked and I am hoping someone could send a picture back of the proper installation place

That looks like the starter-to-chassis ground cable. If you can find a threaded hole on the chassis nearby, I'd say that's the place.

This *may* help. http://www.nicoclub.com/service-manual? ... ction%20EL

I'll see if I can get some of the early Hardbody guys to chime in.

I see a ground wire at the top right of the image. If the strap will reach, I'd say that's a good home for it. If not, you could back a bolt out of anything that's not supporting any kind of gasket and run it there.

is it a kind of thick black with a yellow stripe because I attached this wire to the thermostat housing on the outside

Tstat housing is not a good ground. It's aluminum.
