Hello Ladies/Gents... We have been looking for a reliable vehicle for sometime, and really like the look and feel of the Nissan Murano SE. I am not a huge car guy by any means and have heard mixed reviews by some of my mechanic friends. We are located in Canada, and have been looking at some 2005's/2006/2008's... We are trying to find something that has our budget as well as low km's.

I'm really nervous about transmission issues, and this cvt stuff. I'm also concerned about the cost of repair and service vs GM/Ford type vehicle...can anyone give some sound advise/insight on this vehicle through experience? IE Nissan Mechanic, educated owner??? Does anyone know if there have been enhancments to the 2008 vs 2005 to ensure transmission and engine?? Thanks a bunch John

Labor rates are higher for imports as are parts prices..............but even +30% would work out to only a few hundred per year extra.

The trick with any used car is to BUY the Factory extended warranty that way the increments are covered to 100,000 miles and 7 years.

The CVT is very different from geared transmissions and REQUIRES more expensive ATF mainteances if you desire life beyond 100k warranty.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS from NICOclub! Glad to have you here in the Murano Forum!

In all honesty, there is not a problem with the CVTs. You hear about the problem more than any other transmission because it is newer and there are more skeptics out there. Yes, it is a little more expensive to maintain, but you don't change the fluid more than once or twice anyway. FYI, Nissan supplies Ford with there CVT. It is now used on many Ford vehicles as well. You will find the Murano is a great choice and you will be very happy. Just so you know, there was never an '08 model produced. Nissan went from the '07 model to the all new '09 model.

Thanks to all that responded...!!Ok....so it mustev been an 07 Murano that the sales rep called me about...Im sure he said 08....hmmm I guess I will visit the dealership....

So preventitive maintenance required I guess its with any vehicle...

Excuse my lack of knowledge but can someone explain:expensive ATF mainteances??I suspect it has something to do with the transmission? How expensive is this maintenance and how often would it be required?

Thanks again!!!!!!

I don't know off had how often the fluid needs to be changed in the Murano, it isn't very often though. I will have to check the maintenance book when I get a chance. It isn't that expensive, it is a little more than regular fluid, but nothing crazy. You should call a Nissan dealer and just ask them in the service dept. how much it costs to replace the fluid in Murano.

I shamelessly agree!

(I can't sell one in Canada, and I don't know what their rates are up there) But the Gold Preferred is usually your best value.

Keep in mind while shopping that a Murano still under factory warranty is eligible for the best coverage.

Good luck! You will love your MO I bet. I love mine.

I recently purchased a used 2009 Murano with 14k. The dealer wanted $1600.00 for the gold plan. Considering I have 2 1/2 yrs 22k remaining on the basic coverage end and 3 1/2 yrs 46k miles left on the power train warranty I thought this was a lot of money. I drive about 10k miles a year. Extended warranties are a big money maker for dealers. The have no liability until the manufactures warranty expires. I am going to wait a while to see if I get any letters direct from Nissan pertaining to a extended warranty prices.
