I have been looking for an lsd for a while and found that nissan motorsports has a kit to install lsd into a r200 diff. I also found in the new nismo catalog that they have an lsd for the 89-94 240sx and that the part number is 1 off of the nissan motorsports part number. the nissan motorsports book has replacement parts to order (slotted discs, friction discs) no viscious coupler. Are both lsds the same just diffrent part numbers? So they are both clutch type? any kind of extra info would be super also any advice appreciated.

Are you sure that the Nismo ones are VLSD? Isn't it just the new and the older model? As to who made 'em; I'm not sure about the new Nismo LSD (the GT, I think), but I know the previous models were made by KAAZ. In fact, KAAZ supplies other companies w/ LSD's including the tomei w/ the tech trax, and many other companies. I can't say for sure about who else they supply, but I'm pretty sure it's more than just Nismo and Tomei. That's not to say that they are all the same. The companies usually contract out LSD's to KAAZ w/ their own specs, and KAAZ is only in charge of the production.

It's kinda like how Garrett makes turbos for HKS, but the specs and standards were set by HKS. Every manufacturer does this to keep cost down.

I'm almost positive that the nismo LSD is clutch type, but it only uses something like 4 clutches or something, a review said that they overheat and lose effectiveness quickly compared to other aftermarket LSD. They label them as 2 way and I don't think they make a 2 way viscous LSD.

yea, the VLSD only comes in "1.5 way". The overheating problem isn't anywhere near as bad as the VLSD, though. . .
