I had my battery changed recently by a small shop. I started up the car and checked a few odds and ends and adjusted my radio presets and clock as both lost their settings. When arriving home, I tried to lock the doors with the remote lock and didn't function. I then tried with the power door locks in the door and that failed as well. I then did a check of most of the electronic devices and noticed the rear defroster no longer activates as well.

The fuses were checked by the small shop that replaced the battery and said all was good and also checked with Nissan service and said nothing regarding the battery change should affect the power doors/keyless remote/rear refroster.

Is there something that may need to be reset or did something fail in the 20 minutes the shop had the car (from a few items I read it may be a module that failed?). It is hard to believe that for 9 years I had no issues and the 20 minutes it was in the shop something died.

Any thoughts/help would be appreciated.

If all the related fuses and relays are good, you may have to re-initialize the door locks after reconnecting the battery. To do so:-insert Ignition key and turn ON (do not start)-LOCK/UNLOCK the doors using the remote or door key cylinder.

As for the rear DEFROSTER, most cars have overheat protection that will disable the defroster if the rear glass is already warm/hot (due to ambient condition).

I turned the key to the ON position (tried all of them prior to turning the engine on) and tried the remote to lock and nothing happens. I am not entirely positive, but I believe the rear defroster did turn on whenever depressed even if there was no cold/wetness on the rear windshield.

This was the first battery change since purchasing the car in 2000. But this place supposedly called Nissan and they said there shouldn't be anything related to the battery change that would cause the power doors/keyless entry/rear defroster to stop working.

Any other ideas? From what I am reading there is also a module that controls these items and may have failed?

the main module is the driver door switches...the power to all the other doors is first run thru the driver door. You could pull of your driver door swithces and check for burn marks or dark marks on the underside of your switches. if you've got burn marks youve gotta replace the dang thing.

your fuse and circuit breaker for the "remote entry" should be somewhere...but i cant remember where.

Been down and out with the flu which was horrible, but may have a good ending. After 10 days of being shut off in my garage, I tried to start the car and just clicked when trying to start. I checked the lights and turned on but was dim and got dimmer as I left it on for ~15 seconds. Called for a jump, and started up and left it running for 20 minutes. Came back to the car and for kicked tried the rear defroster button and the amber light came on. Stepped out and closed the door and tried the keyless remote and that worked fine as well.

Does anyone have an idea why a jump start would cause the keyless remote and rear defroster to start working again? Hopefully this is the end of the problems, but if it comes back again would like to know how this potentially corrected the problem.

Possibly because the battery did not supply enough voltage to the electronics so it was the same as disconnecting it and reset everything. Question is though:why did a new battery go down in 10 days?
