Hello, I'm new to this forum. I have a 1995 Nissan Pickup XE Single Cab Truck 4x4. A couple months ago I started having a ton of problems with this truck. After owning it for 5 years and pushing its limits every time I got, this isnt a surprise to me. First off my exhaust actually came apart from the exhaust manifold making it sound like a stock car. Does anyone know where I can find some parts to fix that. And a couple days later I was driving and I looked down at my temperature gauge and it was climbing higher then before. So I stopped and had a buddy bring me some antifreeze, thinking that would solve it. On the way home I noticed it was still heating up and there was no hot air blowing into the cab. So my friend and I automatically thought it was the thermostat. After limping it home very slowly it died going into my driveway. I parked it that night and checked it in the morning. And there is a ton of shavings in the oil, and lots of antifreeze in the oil. So a couple weeks ago I started tearing it apart. I took the head and gasket to a car parts store to ask them if they could see if the gasket was leaking. They said they thought they have a good idea where the gasket was leaking, but also told me the cam was rubbing in the block, and they wanted to me bring in the main bearings and rod bearings to see what they look like.
Do you guys think I'm better off just going to get another used engine from a junk yard, or completely rebuilding the one I have. I'm really hesitant that the truck shut off on me.
And if I do decided to go get another engine does the 2 wheel drive engine fit the 4 wheel drive trucks?

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Well personaly if you wanted to build the engine from ground up yourself can be very costly if cams and cranks need to be changed so u have to deside what you want. Do u just want your truck back the way it was stock or better then ever. If you want to keep it stock I would not suggest getting an engine used it would be better to buy it new or rebuilt with a engine guaranteed start up. Other wise you might start spending alot of time with trouble shooting and money with little parts sensors, dizzys, ect. But if you wanted an easy up grade with more potential get a ka24de the motor itself new /rebuilt will be about the same price depending were you get it but will do so much more for you as far as power. But you will need more parts that will be extra Like the power steering pump, coil, icm, ect.

I would personally just keep it stock. For the many years I've owned it I've never really needed the extra power. This truck usually just my spare truck. Its used for hunting, and gravel roads. Guess its done just fine in the mud for me. It doesn't set no speed record, but used to get to get where I wanted to go.

Well then I would say just get a ka24e with a guaranteed start up and just be done and maybe rebuild the motor you got later when u feel like buying a new cams ,crank, possibly pistons depending how many miles , valves , sprongs and all the gaskets. Because that just in parts might end up to be just as expensive as a new or rebuilt.

Do you happen to know if the two wheel drive motors will fit my truck. I'm having a hard time finding motors that came out of a 4x4, but seems to be quite a few engines pulled from a 4x2 around where I'm located.
Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it.

As far as I can see the real main difference between the 2 and 4 wheel drive engines is the oil pan. If your pan is good you could transfer it to the 2wd engine. There may be some other minor difference beyond that so I would keep the old block until the new block is in the truck and running.

Thanks for the help, I finally got the engine tore about today. And was it a surprise. I took the oil pan off and and there were many metal piece, and then about a 8 inch piece of metal that was a component of the timing chain rails. I had this replaced a few years back and I guess the guy didn't install it correctly. My guess is over time the rail went to s***, and then allowed the chain to rub a hole in one of the antifreeze passages, and thats how I got the antifreeze in the oil. I'd upload pics but can't figure out how. Guess I'll be looking for a engine now.....

The timing chain guide failure is a common thing with these engines. Nissan updated the guides but those can still fail. But then I wouldn't rule out mechanic error either.

Yeah, I'm going to go with mechanic error, mistakes happen. I'm looking for some parts I broke during removal, and I'm stumped on what one part is. I've looked online for hours, and looked at every page in my Haynes Manual. This part does a Y right off the front exhaust pipe, before the manifold. It bolts onto the pipe, then theres a tube that runs up to the front driver corner. Anyone know what this tube/pipe is called, and or is it necessary?

That would be the EGR tube. It wraps around behind the cylinder head and attaches to the EGR valve on the intake side.

It's not that egr tube. This come straight off the muffler right before the manifold on the exhaust pipe. Can some explain how to load pics that would be a lot easier to show then.

I'm wondering what the smaller pipe is. It's threaded and it metal and turned into a rubber hose. It appears to me that it goes up to the AIV case. I've been told it has something to do with heating the exhaust when the weather is cold. Also heard its possible title is Air Tube AIV. Someone help?
