Had anyone heard about a Nissan/Infiniti recall affecting 2.56 million vehicles?Includes 700,000 in United States.In United States, the company will recall the following models: Nissan: Sentras 2000-03 (1.8-liters); Sentras 2002-03 2.5-liters; Altimas 2002 2.5-liters; Maximas 2001-03 3.5-liters; Altimas 2002-03 3.5-liters; 350Z 2003; and Muranos 2003.

The company will also recall the following vehicles sold in United States under the Infiniti name: I35 2001-03; G35 2003 sedans & coupes; Q45 2001-02 & M45 2003.

The news only said that it is a possible defect in the engine.

It has to do with a sensor that may cause starting trouble.Non safety related.

Voluntary, unlike the big 3 that dont act until forced by DOT ( or a threat of such) Nissan/Infiniti proves once again what a class act it is.

Stories abound with some manufactureres trying to push big expenses that are clearly ijn warranty on consumers, and here they are voluntarily replacing a part that <might> cause starting problems.

Props to Nissan!

Hey Fred, mine's going in for routine service Monday morning. Do you have an ITB# or other such reference for the recall campaign that I can mention to the service writer when I take it in? If they've got the part in stock, might as well have them do the deed Monday.

I am going to have them do the transmission TSB on Tuesday ... would love to know the TSB for this CAS recall.

I saw the other thread mentioning the recall article in today's WSJ. I missed the article reading my copy this morning. Went and found the article, and it sounds like we're a bit premature. I called my service manager, and he was completely unaware of the recall, and said that it was typical for the press to get wind of such things before the dealers. It will likely take some time for the dealers to get the new sensors in stock in any meaningful quantity. The WSJ has mentioned that Nissan has discovered 20 failures of the part. 20 failures of a part that has been installed in 2.5 million cars world wide. I don't think I'm going to lose much sleep if mine doesn't get done till the next oil change, 5000 miles down the road. Let me know what you think of the change from the trans TSB. Still looking forward to your tire research.

5K is a lot of miles on an oil change unless you are driving cross country.

I'll do 5K every 90 days, sometimes quicker. 1st 5K has come in 83 days. With the quality of today's oils, it's a more than adequate frequency, IMO. First change was at 2500, second is 5K, then every 5K thereafter, always with a new filter, of course. Scheduled service every 15K. All of them done at dealer, including 5K oil changes. Four previous Infinitis under the same schedule. Never any lube related failures or any difficulties with warranty issues. Longest ownership was 94 Q that I put 90k miles in 6 years. Engine ran flawlessly at the time I traded it. Never used a drop of oil between changes in its life. Same with all the others.

I change the oil in my diesel pickup every 3K. It sits more than the Infiniti, and oil change frequency is more criticial to the diesel.

I recommend picking up a little tutorial I found on the Internet (based on a link from Fred). See my other recent post on the topic ... this tutorial/book has a good working method on how to determine the optimal change duration for each person.
