Quantitatively speaking.

http://www.autoblog.com/2011/01/30/niss ... ive-sales/
In the U.S., the pecking order among Japanese automakers looks like this: Way out in front is Toyota, followed by Honda and Nissan respectively. On a global scale, however, Nissan has finally leapfrogged Honda for second banana status. Torque News reports that Nissan's global sales soared 21 percent in 2010 due in part to exploding business in China. All told, Nissan moved 4.08 million units during the calendar year
Honda's business is more profitable, however.

I'm surprised Toyota didn't take a big hit with all the brake and acceleration problems they've had.

Toyota isn't done with taking sales hits yet. What would have been returning customers over the next few years once they have ending leases/payoffs from vehicles purchased in 06-on may be shopping elsewhere.

Brake and acceleration problems aren't the only ones - my Dad owns a 2007 Tundra that needed a full transmission rebuild at 61,000 miles. He doesn't tow anything and drives like a grandpa. Seriously disappointing. 2,000 miles outside of warranty and $4,200 out of his pocket.

Honda's complacent now. The new Si is just getting an engine swap from the TSX which is really disappointing after the last 8k redlining engine.

Yay, more focus on sales volume. Because consumers should absolutely care about sales volume. Clearly that's the only measuring stick that matters. That's why EVERYONE would rather own a Camry than a 599 GTO.

Its been a shuffle for the top global sales position. GM was down to #3 a couple years ago while VW was briefly #1 and Toyota was #2. Now Toyota is #1 and GM is #2.

Nissan-Renault need to get their s*** together and sell more cars in China.

I was actually looking at our sales figures today. Nissan outsold renault almost 2:1. Renault needs to get their a** in gear.

Nissan sold slightly over 1,000,000 vehicles in China this year, but was still under 10% market share. They sold 908,000 in USA.

In the entire world, I think Nissan/Renault makes up for about 10.2% of total vehicle sales. Not too shabby really. Hopefully they come out with some sweet stuff for the next model roll out (direct injection, turbos, manual trannies, AWD subie fighter?).

Hopefully Nissan will give up on its infatuation with CVT.

From what I'm seeing... there is no way that is going to happen.

Hell, I'll take a DCT over a CVT any day of the week.

Is Nissan still trying to recoup the development costs of CVT? Are they cheaper to manufacture? There has to be a business reason behind why something so unpleasant is being shoehorned into so many cars and crossovers.

I think the main problem is that they don't consider them unpleasant. They actually consider it a selling point.

They are putting it into their new "global sedan", which they plan on selling 1 metric a** ton of.

Good questions. Another thought I was had is if independant shops/chains will be able (or willing) to repair CVT's when they start breaking. Or is Nissan taking a page out of VW's playbook by trying to push you into using a dealership for repairs.

Nissan's just making cooler cars right now, IMO.

Honda needs to bring out a conventionally-powered CR-Z and a CTR variant of the 2012 Civic. I'd probably buy either of those.

The Acura brand is lagging behind its competitors, among a handful of auto brands that didn't see an increase of more than 15% since last year. Infiniti is lagging as well, but at least there's an excuse -- the product portfolio is due for a full refresh in a year or two.

Acura's mix of new and refreshed (ie UGLY) vehicles is selling poorly, which means the next 2-3 years will be even worse.

Look, I've been saying it for years, and it's only going to get more relevant:

When I can buy a RWD V8 for the same price as a FWD V6, I will not go with the FWD V6. NO ONE WANTS TO PAY $55K FOR A FWD V6. EVER. I AM ALSO TALKING AT YOU, LINCOLN. I AM DONE WITH CAPSLOCK now.

For Hell's sake, when I can get a 535 for the same price as an RL, why the SMEG would I EVER even CONSIDER the RL?!

I'm also VERY VERY PISSED at Acura for waiting until they uglied the TSX up before:
A: Finally offering a V6 in it and
B: Giving us the wagon

I hate you all. GTFO. Stop ruining cars I like.

You know, I'm ok with this if it replaces the Versa. That's about it though. If that is a new Sentra or Altima, I will barf on them at the dealer.

WHY does this car have 37 beltlines? It looks like a fat guy with his flab hanging down over his pants waist.

Based on Honda's record since 2006, the new NSX will probably be an option package for the Honda Crosstour.

I was talking about honda quality going down the drain with my brother in law today at work. Him and and father in law own a repair shop and used to sell cars as well. They really used to push Honda's, but they have gotten so hard to work on, failure prone, and just cheap in general, they stopped telling ppl to buy the newer ones.
