Interesting letter. I predict a recall after they "Investigate". They say it's not harmful but its still quite annoying.

I'm glad it doesn't affect the 3.5L

Now I'm starting to wish I could've gotten a VQ for the same price as my RD with the fuel economy of an RD. Heh, wishful thinking.

I'm just glad that it doesn't cause any mechanical harm in the short or long-term. But it is annoying a bit. Once they issue the recall, I'm going to have to go to the stealership (again) to get it fixed.

If only they did this for the annoying seat creaks, squeaks, rattles, and whatever else noises come from it

I'm taking my car in tomorrow at 10:30 so we'll see if they can remedy these irritating sounds.

I get a pinging rattling noise at start up when cold - AND my exhaust shakes underneath when powering down and starting up - is this part of the issue?

It's a letter, not an e-mail. Maybe you just haven't gotten yours yet.

You can try calling your dealer and asking them.

I got it today as well. As long as it doesn't effect performance or safety, I don't care...

Logical reasoning. Some just find it annoying.

the 3.5L have the same problem. for some STUPID reason, Nissan decided to change the design of the heatshields. they put these stupid washers that are BUILT IN to the heatshields, they have mesh between 2 metal washers that are a part of the shield, if that makes any sense. the mesh is wearing out a lot quicker than nissan expected causing the heatshield to not be held tight, thus causing the rattle. i dont know why they needed to add these mesh inserts anyway, just the regular old bolt + washer was working FINE! i hate when they change **** for no reason!!!

They change it (which doesn't make sense) and then this causes problems so they have to issue new recalls (which makes even less sense). It's just more hassles for the consumer and in the long run, for Nissan as well.

Hmm, i noticed that rattle at low RPMs in the 2.5s but maybe thought that was normal for the CVT?

I thought so too, but it does sound a bit rough now that I pay attention to it. I'll probably take it in sometime next year once they officially issue a recall.

yea, I've been getting the rattle ever since I installed the injen intake.. and I thought it was because of that, but I am glad its not. Anyways, do you think I can just go in to the nissan dealer and have them fix it for free?

Havent received any letter as of today in regard to the heat shield issue.

You can still take it in, even if you haven't received any letter.

Nissan canada says:

Nothing about the issue.

O well, im a 3.5 owner anyhow.

Just think that Nissan overlooks Canada and doesnt have a good customer service line for us.

Has anyone in Canada (Toronto Area) received the heat shield letter..

I only know of one person in the GTA has received it..

FYI... I had spoken to the service manager at my dealership about any recalls and he asked for my VIN # and said "nothing on the car" surprisin

Give it time....I realize my Altima is older, but, the heat shield rattle is pretty common on the 3.5 as well. My warranty was up when mine started but I only had 14K miles on it or so..Only 19K now.....

I avoid the monkeys in the service dept as much as possible....They are horrible....

Any way, A lot of guys just ripped off the shield....But if I were under warranty....I would not do that......I just put a BIG hose clamp around the culprit and it was gone.....Never to return.

You will find a lot of cheap parts on nissan cars that just fall off......Just be glad you have the VQ.....that makes it all worth while...I suppose
