Im getting ready to install a new timing set. Would like some info on how to start and what to do when the timing cover is off. Also, do you reuse the spring on the chain tensioner???

well if yours is a ka24e, the way i like to do it is 1. unhook bat 2. drain rad into bucket to save coolant unless its old but use bucket to keep epa off your a-- 3. remove rad and intake tube, air box, filter box. 4. loosen and remove p/s belt, bracket, pump( lay off to side dont have to unhook lines) loosen ac belt remove, 5. remove valve cover 6. remove plugs, wires, dist. 7. remove alt. and belt ( you can lay to side or unhook and take out of the way up to you) 8. with a 27mm socket, loosen crank bolt and use 3 jaw puller(leave bolt in crank but loose to avoid damage to crank threads) 9. drop skid plate, cross member( 17mm nut, 19mm bolt x4.. 10. remove oil pump( 4 12mm bolts 2 long 2 short) and dist drive spindle will fall out with a little help 11. drain oil and remove filter and then oil pan. ( so you can clean out all the broken chain guide parts and dont drop anything in it while you work!!!) 12. remove p/s bracket if you havent already. and ground strap, and pcv valve box behind/under thermostat housing 13. remove timing cover bolts 4 10mm on top need wrench to get to one of them, then all the 12mm down each side.. 14. ease cover off, you will lose alot of water when this happens so have a catch pan cause youll be laying there later!! 15. if you have all new gears chain etc. go ahead an remove cam sprocket and chain will come off then.if just replacing guides and tensioner / chain, dont bother 16. tensioner has 2 10mm bolts tens gide has an allen screw. dont rem the size, slack side has 2 allen bolts.... now is a good time to use carb cleaner and clean oil feed for tensioner to make sure it hasnt gunkd up. spray into tiny hole for a couple seconds shold be good.. unless its stoppd up then find comprsd air for the trik.. REASSEBLE.. to line up timing cam sprket key way will be at 12oclk and timing mark will be about 3oclk.. crank kway will be 12 and mark will be about 5.... and make da(* sure its at tdc(top dead center number one cylinder) on the compression stroke (no open valves). now clean up tim cver and put sealant (grey rtv like factory) or gasket w sealnt and put back on( good time to install front seal if yours is bad,, thermostat as wll) ther is also a heater hose and intake water hose you should replae now as it is hek to get to after all is put bk togther.. about 15 dollors for both.. everthing else reverse of takin apart.. Hope this helps man....
