Is the truck timed properly? Has the belt skipped a tooth? That would account for the fuel smell.

I know it was timed properly after the timing belt install I will check again to make sure it hasn't jumped the truck confuses me because after I install a new part it runs flawless until I shut it off and restart it then it's like I didn't change anything it just doesn't make sense to me but maybe I'm over thinking it but I will check timing later when I get the oppertunity

This is the timing belt, it has skipped a tooth. Ran into the same problem.

Okay I'll check to make sure they're lined up I know they were when I put it on will it keep skipping a tooth or with the belt stretch and stop jumping

Did you turn the engine over by wrench a couple of times to make sure the belt was still lined up?

I hope not too. If it's a cheap belt make sure the teeth are in good shape and not too shallow so as to not grab the pulleys enough.

They don't "slip" in 99% of cases. 99% of the time, the installer doesn't lock the two cams together to prevent timing from changing.

I'll check everything out and I never spun the motor so I'd say it jumping time was my fault but I'm gonna tear into it after Christmas and see what I can figure out

Are you working with the Factory Service Manual?
