I should preface this with: I am an amateur when it comes to car audio. I have a reasonable knowledge of electronics, mechanical things and theatre audio, having said that 12 volts is like a foreign language to me: expect bad practice.
Searched around for this, but it seems that the M and the Fuga base audio systems differ slightly - I have an '06 JDM Fuga with a 6 speaker system, and while I love the car (loved it a little more before I managed to put a nice big scrape down the left side of it, but we won't talk about that) I feel like it needs a bit more bass. I have an all in one amp/10" sub box that'll fit nicely in the boot (trunk for you Americans) and wiring power and ground for it was pretty simple, just look at all the M wiring posts and mirror the images for the RHD version.
The problem I've encountered is that in all the info I can find (Including this very useful doc: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/M/2006_M45-M35/av.pdf) if you have six speakers, you have the base system, which if I'm reading correctly means that the speakers are driven directly from the 'audio unit' cd stacker box in the dash. But none of the wiring matches... I thought I managed to find the right outputs, but it seems like I only managed to find some sort of antenna connection. FYI raw antenna into a sub doesn't sound great.
After scratching my head for a bit, I remembered seeing something while I was wiring everything up. it looks like there's some sort of amp in the boot. Driver's side. Disconnecting it leads to an AUDIO OFF message on the screen up front, so it looks like I'm on the right track.
Has anyone done this sort of work on a JDM Fuga with the base audio system? I'll be happy to document this when I'm done, but if anyone has a wiring diagram I'm sure you'll save me a lot of time.
It's dark outside, and I don't have a great pic of the car, so this'll have to do:
