JUST RECEIVED A LETTER FROM NISSAN STATING THE WARRANTY ON MY 2004 MURANO HAS BEEN EXTENDED FROM 5YEARS/60K MILES TO 10 YEARS/120K MILES ON THE TRANSMISSION. AND IF I HAD PAID FOR A PREVIOUS REPAIR I WOULD BE REIMBURSED. JUST SUBMIT A RECEIPT. THIS IS GREAT NEWS BECAUSE EVERYONE KNOWS THE TRANS ON THESE VEHICLES IS THE WEAKEST LINK AND ARE VERY EXPENSIVE. WAY TO GO NISSAN FOR STEPPING UP TO THE PLATE AND REASSURING ITS CUSTOMERS THAT THEY STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT. ALSO THIS WARRANTY IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE TO ALL OWNERS.

Not just the Murano, pretty much all of the CVT equipped Nissans, how nice of them!

Nice of them to stand by their products reluctantly and belatedly but I'll take it. Now I wish they would warranty the door locks which 3 have gone out and their replacement cost is $1300 un effing believable. I will never buy a pos nissan again.

I love statements like this. I'll never buy another POS Ford product, because my 1997 Mazda (a Ford product) had a known transmission defect the manufacturer wouldn't own up to. I'll never buy another POS Volkswagen because the 1.8T engine was notoriously unreliable, with an oil sludge problem causing engine failure. I'll never buy another POS GM product because my grandfather's '86 Chevy van was ALWAYS in the shop. I'll never buy another POS Toyota because my neighbor's Camry threw a rod after an oil sludge problem caused a spun bearing. I'll never buy another POS Mercedes because my parents' 2002 ML320 had many many electrical gremlins, and the glovebox door fell off. I'll never buy another Land Rover because my real estate agent's 2006 Discovery is always in the shop for... well... everything. I'll never buy another POS Hummer because I saw a photo of one once with bent tie rods after offroading. I'll never buy another Mitsubishi because my parents had one 20 years ago that was totalled after a minor fender-bender. I'll never buy another Chrysler because our 1996 Neon blew a head gasket after just 80,000 miles, and our 2002 Town and Cuntry needed a transmission after just 100,000 miles. I'll never buy a POS Hyundai because my grandmother's 1993 Excel dropped its transmission after 84,000 miles, and her 2001 Elantra lost a CV joint on the highway after 60,000 miles.

And lastly, I'll never buy another Nissan because my 1987 Pathfinder required a complete overhaul after 20 years and 175,000 miles, after surviving hurricane Andrew and being declared a total loss when it was just six years old.

Do you see my point?!?!? (these are all true stories, by the way).

Good point Bishop, the bottom line is it's VERY tough to know which vehicles have the best quality, and ulitimately which one to buy and how long to keep it for. I think the point about the door locks is valid since they are 1300 bucks to replace, but if it's covered on warranty then it isn't a real valid gripe.

what are the "symptoms" of a transmission going bad? Or does it just die a sudden death...
