A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

Hey Guys,

Just wondering whether or not you think it's worth it to purchase the nissan extended warranty. I just financed a sentra se-r for 60 mths. The default warranty is 3 years and 60,000km.

1. Is it worth it to get the extended warranty for 60 mths, 120,000 kms for $1730 (includes most things aside from the Nav system and other high tech compenents)?

Thanks for your input. I really appreciate it.

Cheers,Brian

So what you get is another 2 years or 60,000km (whichever comes first) at a cost of $865/year. For some cars it's well worth the extra like a Volkswagen Touareg. I suppose it depends on the reliability record of a car like yours, if you have to pay a deductible and how much, what's covered and what's not covered, etc... Lexus used to offer a full bumper-to-bumper extended warranty up to 160,000km for a little less money.

Complete waste of money. The only way you'd need it is if you treated it badly in which case, they wouldn't cover whatever you did anyway.

If you really feel the need for one, get it at a credit union, they are almost always less than half what the dealer offers with better coverage.

Not exactly.

As with most of these things,

the "Nissan Added Security Plan" is not an extension of the original warranty.

It only covers what is specifically mentioned in the policy, so it is hard to define clearly what all the exclusions are.

But some of the exclusions are:- mtce. services due to normal wear and tear- alignments, battery, belts, brake pads/shoes/rotors, filters, airbags, axle boots, bulbs, exhaust system, harnesses, hoses, shocks and struts, wiper blades

The OP's title mentions "Service" Plan, but the only maintenance services included are the first 4 oil changes. It is a "Security" Plan.

Although the brochure has Nissan's logo on it, this has to be a 3rd. party insurance policy, that Nissan dealers participate in using genuine Nissan parts.

Some giveaways as to the 3rd. party generic nature of it are references to things that Nissan vehicles don't generally use now ( e.g. timing belt, distributor cap).

You have to read it carefully to see what are options in the policy if you pay extra for an upgraded plan (e.g. tire road hazard coverage, legal assistance services, etc.)

Looks like a U.S. warranty company to me, but less risky as your Nissandealer, and maybe Nissan Canada, stands behind it.

I vote - save your money.
