AZHitman - I can agree to that. For me, I can't separate the person from the athlete and for that, I see no forgiveness in my future.
I had a read through the Sports Illustrated article. I truly hope that he has changed. I hope that the inspiration that his teammates and fans get is for his ability to change. I didn't know about his struggles with his past once he got out of jail. Everyone claims that prison changed him, but if he has actually changed, it was a series of offences that gave him the motivation to change.
He has heard the speculation: Mike's a free agent at the end of this season; Mike needs to say the right things; Mike's broke. He chuckled. "Mike ain't broke," he said. "But that's what people say, yeah. I don't think me saying the right thing is going to get me a new deal or contract. It's all about my play. It's all how you conduct yourself as you play well. I don't have to put on a front around anybody. Everybody knows my personality."
I found the above quote interesting. What I get from it was that he doesn't care about what he did in the past. His past won't help him with the future. That may be true for the people that have forgiven him and given him a second chance, but for me, I don't care about his future if he isn't remorseful for his actions of the past. He has had countless opportunities to redeem himself, but has chosen not to. Instead, he focuses on doing what he wants to do and believes he doesn't owe anything to the dogs. That's his opinion and I'll respect it.
I don't know any of the dogs that Vick abused, but my friend has a rescued "Pit Bull" that was used as a bait dog. To think of what he went through for someone's selfish "hobby" is very upsetting.
Sorry for posting in the wrong section. I was in this section of the forum because I own a Rogue. I didn't know about the general chat area.
Reverend D21 - I have to agree with what your saying. Even the bad can have some benefits.
Casperfun - What kind of world would we live in if we didn't stand up for what we believe in? Would the U.S. have just sat back after 9/11 and not gone to war? Would convicted rapists be allowed to live anywhere without their neighbours knowing? I believe that it's important and while I never forced my opinion on anyone, I posted the commercial to inform other Nissan owners. The decision to support the dealership is up to the individual and their feelings about Michael Vick.
I agree that his upbringing had a lot to do with the crimes that he committed. At the same time, he's a grown adult, he knew the law, and there was no excuse. Most kids would give anything to play professional sports. There are a lot of people who had to give up their old lifestyles when they were offered a contract. Vick chose to continue with his lifestyle as he enjoyed it and thought that he had covered up his operation. He painted his kennels black, built walls around his property, buried the dead dogs, and kept his hobby quiet.
