I have been going to Bankston Nissan in Lewisville for almost 2 years now. I have spent thousands of dollars on parts and service there. Last June I replaced my EGR through them. My service advisor tells me it has a 12 month warranty. In December a check engine light comes on, I check it and of course it is the egr again. I call Nissan they tell me to wait and see if it shuts off on its own. I finally get a break in school and a chance to take my car in yesterday. They say the part is 2,000 miles out of warranty and it is going to cost liie 350 dollars to fix it.

I'm severely pissed off. First they say there is a 12 month warranty, they dont tell me about the mileage warranty. Then in December they tell me to wait so I do. I was under the mileage limit for the warranty.

what do you think I should do. Is the dealership ripping me off, or am i just unlucky in this matter.

If you have your reciept for the work/part, check to see what's printed on it. That's what they have to honor.

I'll do that. I shoudlve taken it in December. I wish I had been informed of the 12000 mile thing before hand. I can't believe a brand new EGR would go out so fast.

Maybe it's just the tubes to and from the EGR that are clogged. Worth checking it out.

I'd talk to the service manager about it. Explain what you just told us, particularly about their recommendation to wait it out. I'm not sure what kind of laws might hold precedents here, but I see an element of detrimental reliance and perhaps the fact you were following their recommendation in good faith. It certainly won't hurt to try...

Quote »350 dollars [/quote] forget that!!! chances are your EGR might be clogged, dirty or something. check it out yourself. i never rely on the dealer, especially the one you're going to. good luck :)

Dealers are looking to sell stuff. Educate yourself on how your car works. Don't fall prey. Keep them honest. Check those EGR tubes. Clogging is a known phenomenon.

all dealer installed parts come with a 12 month and 12000 mile warranty-this is a standard warranty-there are occasions where you can talk the dealer into a "good will " warranty-especially due to the minor mileage overage-most manufacturers limit the warranty due to the fact that everyone feels that they are entitled to something for free just because they bought the part from the dealer-

just try to sweet talk the manager and try to get it warrantied

If his complaint was made before warranty expires and its documented, the warranty applies IAW the date/milage of teh first complaint on a given problem.

I talked to my service advisor and he said he is going to try and work something out. They said that the solenoid in the EGR is stuck open and it must be replaced. I wouldve liked to look for a better price but my Dad already ordered the parts. I'm takingmy car in tomorrow so all i can hope for is a break and that they do the job right.

Dealerships are known for shiz like that. At least GM seems to do that alot. I called the dealer about an engine check light. After giving them the vin (which told them that I was still under warranty) they told me it is just an exhaust sensor and to just contunue driving. Ok, the engine is running rough, how the fook do you know what is wrong without even looking at it. Turned out one of the injectors was clogged, I wouldev been pinging that cylinder all over the place to continue drivin on it.

A previous vehicle (Buick LeSabre)which was near the end of its factory warranty was giving off a grinding/snapping noise when turned hard. They did an alignment and played with it to minimise the noise. How did I know, I don't normally drive FWD. Once the warranty was gone, it turned out that the CV joints were shot and this was a typical failure of that year and model. Me=shiz outa luck.
