I have a 1987 Nissan D21 5-speed 4x4 pickup standard cab. I'm looking into replacing the 4 cyl motor for more horse power. the truck is all stock. looking for a Total engine swap out. what engine would be a good fit. this will be a regular driving truck when I need to drive it. So, what do I need to make it happen. ty

Welcome to NICO! You ask a tough question and one that I can only respond to by asking another question...How much money are you willing to spend on the project? That will ultimately determine what engine will be a good fit because these trucks have had a lot of different engines installed but it's all about how much the owner was willing to spend.

I have the z24i engine and I would like to either have the ka24e or the Nissan v-6. as for money, looking to spend under 2 grand.

Quickest and easiest would be the KA24e swap.

Wiring, ecm, engine mounts. If you can find a donor truck for parts go for it. It will make swapping much less stressful and pressed for time.
