I hear people talk about filling these out a lot after they bought their new cars.

When I bought my Versa (couple weeks ago, first time ever buying a new car), I didn't get a customer satisfaction survey to fill out - a couple days after I bought it a lady from the dealer left me a voicemail to call her about my experiences, but after I left her a voicemail with better times to reach me, I never heard from her again.

While I did have a great experience overall I just want to know if I'm missing something!

With mine, it was a long several-page survey on Nissan stationary that I had to fill out, and the dealer made sure I filled it out. Apparently some dealers get allocation based on their customer sat scores, which is why my dealer was extremely careful to be courteous and helpful during the sales process.

Unfortunately, their service process, as I found out later, sucked big donkey kong.

Yeah my dealer was just as interested in getting me to fill out the survey as well. Even went as far as to offer me "free" things. Well i would have done it anyway, they were great.

I got mine in the mail about three weeks after I purchased my V. Then again, I also had no complaints about my dealership.

When I bought my Mazda, the dealer gave me a $25 Outback gift certificate for filling it out at the dealership. Still have it somewhere, will probably frame it.

I'd never stand for this sort of corruption in my research.

Inspired by this experience and other stuff I've read about, this month I've been conducting a Dealer Experience Survey Survey--asking people about any way they were pressured to give dealers perfect marks--the dealers only get a big bonus if they get all perfect scores from you. It's an unreasonable goal, so you get cheating.

Still ongoing, so no results yet other than saying that gifts and such are rare, but many car buyers feel pressured by the dealer to give them perfect scores.

I have people report the scores they gave, and Nissan dealers don't look so hot. Only 22% got perfect scores, vs. 36% for the average dealer.

I also got the same plea to rate them highly when I got a survey in the mail. When reflected further, it seems like this continues the effort started during negotiations to try and make me me think that they did me a favor by selling me a car. If they want me to fill in a survey for them, they would have to give me something in return. I never got offered any gift certificate. Survey was thrown in the garbage.

Our dealer came right out and said that anything less than excellent on the multiple choice survey card would hurt her so we gave her excellent on all the questions which in this case was true. She bent over backwards to please us. My brother is a Nissan dealer and he told us the same thing.

I wish! Now that's a proper incentive.

So when I took delivery of my V, the sales manager said the questionnaire would be in the mail. He said that the salesman would get a bonus if I answered excellent for EVERY category, and the salesman would get squat if I answered excellent for every category but one. Oh the guilt.

I've misplaced the questionnaire.

Now I have a new one from Nissan asking all about my interests. All the better to serve me, so they say.

Im a Nissan Salesperson and we are rated as a dealership as well as on a personal level... We dont try to bribe folks though. I would hope after going through the buying experience and after letting customers know the importance ofthe survey they would fill it out accordingly.

Well I finally got my survey in the mail. I found it odd that unlike most of you guys, the dealer/salesperson never said one word to me about the survey, let alone offering me free oil-changes to fill it out favourably.

Since I really like my salesman and had no particular issues with the dealer, I gave them good marks

So it took a couple weeks to arrive, because I have not received mine.

My salesman pleaded with me to give him an "excellent" rating on all counts because he said it could cause him to lose his job if I rated him otherwise.

My purchase wasn't the best experience (as if car buying ever really is). I had a trade in (which I loathe) but the car was a '01 Camry (part of the oil-sludge-o-death generation of Toyotas - they've been sued over this, if you want to read more...). I didn't feel right selling it outright (as I always do) and felt much better handing it off to a dealer to "deal" with.

Anyway, they offered me $1500 lower than the Camry was appraised (showing me a KBB.com printout of the "value" of the car, which was missing options such as ABS and Keyless Entry - to which I replied with my own appraisal copy) and after my $500 student cash back on the Versa, I told them I wanted $X,XXX "trade difference"...I didn't care where the money came from (budge on the sticker/trade in) but I wanted the difference to end up at my dollar amount. After several hours, I got them to give me $1500 more on the trade than they first offered...with no budge on the sticker (except for that cash back deal).

When I got to financing, lo and behold, guess what showed up? That $1500 I had haggled back magically got into the financing computer. Had I not done loan calculations prior, I wouldn't have instantly known there was anything wrong - but the monthly payments they quoted me were nearly $100 more per month than they should have been. The finance guy came back 15 minutes later saying he "wasn't sure where that came from"...riiight.

Needless to say, I'm still irked that they thought they could take advantage of me just because I'm young...scary to think of all the people they sucker into higher payments.

I'm hoping I get one of these survey's soon after I pick up my car (Saturday). I won't give them the greatest rating because I put up with a lot of BS (mostly from the manager). You gotta love sales people.

Yeah, my salesman wasn't really too bad...he was friendly, but he played the "good cop, bad cop" game against the manager (who I never delt with personally). He'd come back to me time after time and tell me how he wanted to make this happen, but his boss was a stickler, yadda yadda yadda. You wonder how many people are gullible enough to take this crap at face value.

When they wouldn't budge on my trade (at first) he gave me a sob story about how they'd lose money on my Camry, even giving me $1500 less than it was worth. I politely told him that I knew they could turn around and sell it for nearly twice that, considering it's average dealer retail value. If they lost money on trades, why would they do it so much? On cheaper car purchases, they usually make more on a trade than the new car.

It's that kind of bold face lying that really bothers me. I wasn't born yesterday, and I know how this stuff works. My brother sold cars for a short time while in college, and he gave me first-hand accounts of every trick in the book. He quickly quit because their tactics turned his stomach, and he didn't want the money that bad.

My salesman offered me a tank of gas. Sadly, I managed to crew up the link while sitting with him
