Surprising. That interior looks 1000x better than any 1990s mainstream car I've ever seen. The reason for the bench seats isn't to remind you of the glory of the 1990s. The Cube's purpose is maximum utility without giving up the "fun" factor (the Nissan brand ethos, if you haven't noticed). It's a fun, economical, people mover. It's a car you and your friends can pile into for a fun day at the beach, etc. etc.

Context.

Edmunds.com is not very flattering to the Cube at all in it comparison to the Scion. Including gas mileage.

Again, all of the supposed "comparison" mentioned in this thread is based on the, now obsolete, previous generation Cube — not the same thing as what's coming state side in Nov. and next spring.

Wait and see. Jumping to conclusions now is moot.

Aside from the overall look, there are a lot of little details I like, like the wraparound look of the glass, the way the rear door overlaps and transitions into the rear bumper and the face-only (no wrapping to the sides) headlight design.

The interior needs work before it comes here, though. The square theme looses it's charm inside the car where it begins to evoke early 1990s American cars:

Those seats look terrible (comfort and support-wise)

I like the original xB a lot as well. The new one can die in a fire, but the old one was great.
Oh I thought it was more that 80's digital look...

Edmunds, like all auto review magazines and websites, have always been biased towards Toyota. Nissan has always been the "cool" car company that everyone loves to hate. As for the "square" styled interior (and exterior), it's an evolution thing; all automakers flip flop from "square" to "round" almost everytime they redesign a vehicle. Currently, Nissan is in their "square" phase (seen the new Maxima lately? that nose reminds me of a 1980's european car). As for the Cube's exterior styling, it really is a throwback from the old Datsun days; the nose, the bumper with taillights integrated into it, the overall upright and boxy style, and even the hubcaps are from the 60's and 70's Datsun design books. During the 1980's, Nissan was into the "tech/digital" design phase, where everything was squared and cubed. During the 80's, Nissan also toyed with excessive digitizing of the gauges, and even vocal warning systems (remember "Bitching Betty?").

I like the functionality of it, but I hate the shape. I can't even imagine how hard that would be to drive in any kind of wind. And it will kill gas milage.

But I personally like the aerodynamic look. I wish the V was a little more streamlined. I want my car to look like a spaceship (the Prius looks like little green men could come hopping out of it.)
