Nissan consult errrrrrrrrr why wont it work......

ok so i have a rb20 and i decided to try my consult out... so i went on ebay and bought a 30 dollar one and after waiting a month to get it i notice i needed a serial to usb cord so i went to fryes today and picked one up for 14 bucks after i got home i hooked everything up and used the consult software and everytime i tried to connect i kept getting the same window..... unable to open com port (win error code 2) i changed the port on my computer to the port i was using on the consult still get the samething ........ i cant get the ecu to read anything but my car runs just fine i dont understand whats going on i've read it can be the serail adapter but how much can that influence if anyone can show mw some insight please hit me back

might not have been hooked up when they did your harness.

nahh its wired in .... i have the 14 pin plug everytime i plug the consult in it just blinks and i cant get the comp or ecu to reconize each other

What I mean is the consult plug isn't wired into the harness.

Did you install the correct drivers for the USB-serial adapter?

yes my consult is wired correct im going to to even double check the wiring but it im 100 its good as for the driver when i plugged the usb serial adapter in it loaded up a driver im asuming its the right one

I have exactly the same problem with this wire!!I believe that can not read via a serial to USB converter!! But i don't know if this is the problem or something else!!Try to use a laptop with a serial port to figured out if the problem is to the adapter!

I would try another serial to usb adapter, I use a lot of serial products at work and all are very picky regarding cheapo adapters. One that i've had the best luck with is a Keyspan model usa-19hs.

yeah i went today returned the old adapter and got a belkin serial to usb for 6 more bucks came with a cd and just looked more high tech so i got ome installed the driver plug it in set the com port up and voila it works on all the programs i have found so far except ecutalk

For anyone else with this issue you can try and get the drivers from moates.netMost of those serial-usb adapters use either the FTDI or cygnal drivers. The drivers that Winblows installs don't work usually.

well it let me use the consult one time before it would'nt work again .... ..... .... still chasing ghost
