I agree with the statement in the article. Nissan needs to stop half-assing Infiniti once & for all. We have a better product than say Lexus, but people will buy Lexus based on the dealer experience alone. With Infiniti, people vow to never buy another based on the horrible dealer experience. Then there's the whole name change thing... UGH

I like where this new leader guy Johan is heading with his thoughts, although it'll likely mean I'll have to spend much more money on my next Infiniti.

Infiniti better than Lexus???? Absolutely never. I had a LS and if it wasn't for my eyes on an A7, I'd be going back to the LS over any Infiniti. Him as a major exec at Infiniti even says this car is a discount luxury car, and that's honestly how I've always felt about it. Who knows, with the way he's talking, maybe I might be "proud" to buy one of these in the future over the others. As a side note, you ever notice in luxury car commercials they never include Infiniti as one of the competition...even in the lower class versions...that's because Infiniti isn't even a blip on the radar of other luxury cars smh. But just my opinion. I guess everyone has their own views.

@IlyaKol we will all have to pay more...I for one am looking foward to it..if i get a better car i will pay for it.

For the ones bringing up lexus go buy one...
I'm glad with these developments...Any thing for the better, right now as it stands we don't even have a wagon.
Sky is the limit right now..They( infiniti) have done little and accomplished alot in my eyes.
I bought My M based of renting one for a week from Hertz.( i rented the same car 3 times).i don't think i ever even seen a t.v commerical ever for a "m".
I'm still suspect of the naming this thing but if its for the better lets do it...
We can't be consider a luxury brand with out a High end car.... a High end car is not 65k...thats high end on a budget..... Once they put out product That 85k and better then we are luxury brand until then we are what we are!.....
Put out the Halo car with a GTR engine already ...We are not a luxury brand when the parent company sells a car base that cost more than m56x fully loaded... We have not given a full effort ...
when was the last time you seen a VW that cost more than top tier audi.

Lexsucks & Infiniti are both "discount" luxury brands. They are re-badged Toyotas and Nissans for goodness sake.

But the irony is that their quality exceeds BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Maserati - the brands they "copy" :bowrofl:

True and they took the time to make RWD and AWD models... unlike Honda/Acura.

Agree with most of what you said. But then, why are we all here posting every day? We're here because they have made a few "gems" over the years that occasionally beat out all of the competition. It's an underdog brand for sure and I'm rooting for the underdog!

^ Yep.

Lexus is, and always has been, boring. Bland cars for drivers who like blandness.

Trying to spice up the IS350 with that utterly redonkulous Predator-looking chrome grill surround is a desperate, juvenile attempt to catch the eye of the same automotive dimwits who bought the LS430 and the SC430... and was likely carried out by the boobs who thought slapping triangular extensions to the bottom of a Corolla and a red S on the decklid makes it a sport sedan.

The Q smacked the LS400 around from 1990 to 1995, without fail - and Lexus still sold more cars. Marketing fail, plain and simple. Market to the "faux-rich" and you'll sell a million cars a year.

While Infiniti has had its screw-ups, and I don't necessarily agree with everything they're doing, the Infiniti and Nissan lineup have been separate and distinct for quite some time... and don't think for a minute that BMW and Lexus aren't paying rapt attention to Infiniti. Since the last time the G knocked off the 3-series, BMW's done nothing new - and the market has noticed.

They've gotta get some cohesion and some direction, but the brand is going to be fine, and Mr. JdN will definitely lead the brand out of its funk.

I agree, more product is needed for growth and to compete. The next m (q70)is coming out in 2016/2017..so the only new product is the q50 for the next 4 years .. :frown:

I probably should have been more clear... i meant 4 door cars... like lexus has is/gs/es/ls(4 different cars) ..bmw 3,5,6 ,7 ...(4 different cars)... infiniti has 2... 4 door cars "G or m"...and not even a wagon :frown:.....

Not too long ago BMW came out with the new 5 & 7 (4 door)

and now BMW is getting ready to release the new 4 & 6 (4 door)

and soon after that the new M3 is on it's way too (2 & 4 door).

Nissan has alot of catching up to do with the entire line-up except for the new altima with looks like a Maxima.

Wagons don't sell. I prefer a wagon, but the typical BMW / Lexus / Infiniti buyer isn't interested.

I don't agree that Infiniti has "a lot of catching up to do". I think the automotive press's love affair with BMW took a slight downturn this past few years, and schlepping out new stuff isn't helping their case (especially cheapening the brand with that X1 joke and the 1-series).

Infiniti will be fine - They've gotta do a few things differently, but they'll get it nailed down.

Lexus has some nice cars I will have to admit. Especially their new recent line up. Infiniti has fell short. Their new M failed in terms of what I expected they would have brought to the table. Looks like a slightly bigger G sedan...nothing more....boring unless it's the Sport edition, which still doesn't hold the, "Flagship" of all Infiniti sedans award in my book.
The new Q50 might be their answer to their short comings....we shall see. The new Lexus LS series is looking really good. IMO

Nissan doesn't have a flagship, best car they have is the GTR

and yes the Lexus LS 460L is a very nice car.

I would like the Lexus LS 460L with the Executive package to be my next car also, even a 2010 (white with black interior)

It's just my pocket are not that deep, I'm just too poor. Lucky for me that it's free to dream. :)

Your wrong. Nissan's "flagship" sedan is the Maxima. Infiniti's current "flagship" sedan is the M series.
Please keep in mind the key word "sedan". I wasn't talking about sport coupes.

I'm sorry but the Maxima & new M are not flagship cars, thus the reason a new Q line needs to be made so that Infiniti may have a chance to catch up.. They are both no where near a lexus LS 460l or a BMW 7 (both 4 door) which are flagship cars.

What exactly makes a "flagship"? Does it have to be overweight, overpriced and overdone? Who really needs one of those? In my opinion, Infiniti did the right thing by killing off the dead weight :)

Flagship means top of the line for that brand. In that case, the Maxima and the M are the respective flagship sedans. Flagship has nothing to do with the competition. It is given to the car that is the most expensive/luxurious/classiest/or some other name of their product line.

^ Correct.

The 460l is less than impressive for the money, and the 7-series isn't what it was in the mid-00's.

As IlyaKol said, "flagship" isn't defined by the competition. It's defined by the manufacturer.

The 460l weighs 4961pounds. I'll-mannered autotrans, grabby brakes, and disconnected steering are among the major complaints. Hell, C&D preferred the Equus, a car that costs 50% LESS. Whoops, Toyota.

The 7-series fares better, but gripes about the flat, nondescript seats and sketchy transitioning in corners are among the chief issues... For the $92K+ price of the 750, I think I'd prefer a loaded-out M and $30K in the bank.

In 2011, the M56 spanked the 550i in almost all categories, and did it without forced induction (and at a lower price). It's only a tenth of a second slower than the new 750i from 0 to 60, and again, there's that price thing.

No sense comparing a 7-series to anything Infiniti offers at present - They're catering to two different demographics. The Infiniti will sell to people who love to drive, the 460l and 750i not so much.

1 top of the line everything

2 yes, yes and yes

3 I would need one

the only thing Infiniti killed was the Q (flagship 4 door)
