Hey gang,

One thing I do love about my Versa is the Radio w/ BlueTooth. However, I've been trying to make MP3 CD's that play past track 30 or so without skipping. I know the problem is most likely caused by the speed at which the CD is burned, and I've set Nero down to 4X, 8X, and 16X and have tried 2 different burners. No luck, I just can't get those tracks to play w/o skipping.

Anybody have any luck?I'm using Memorex CD-R's max speed of 32X on a Optowrite CD or DVD drive (Have both and neither work).

Thanks in advance.

The burner in my HP works. Made a few CDs and itplays every song on them without issue.

The only problem I have is the DRM music I downloaded from microsoft. The only form I can play is a red-book audio CD.

Mine plays WMA files as long as they aren't DRMd. Where does it say it should?

Preface: I'm a computer tech, have been for over a decade. This is not a guess, this is based on problems I have seen with customer's computers.

You MAY have a marginal lens on your burner. Run a lens cleaner disc through your drive and try again, at 16x or slower.

If you still get failures, it's because Memorex CD-R's are OK at best. They are only marginally better than store-brand discs (which are actually Memorex or KAO disc batches that failed those mfr's QC, but were still within the QC guidelines of the stores themselves).

I ONLY use TDK disks for my MP3 and audio disks. There are some other brands out there that are just as good (3M/Imation and Fuji come to mind). There are other brands that are better than Memorex that still have their own problems (mostly burner compatibility... these would be Sony and HP branded discs).

I've never had any problems with Memorex discs, I've actually found that they're generally the best.

Every time I buy a large spindle of a difference disc type I end up with half the spindle being useless.

Not the case in my experience. While less than "half" of Memorex discs I run across are bad, there have certainly been a large number of cases where they simply weren't compatible with a brand of burners, or they were flaky.

I don't run across these issues with higher quality disks like TDK. This is actually why I specifically seek out TDK's also when doing customer data backups at my old job. I would not be exaggerating at all when I say that our shop would go through a 100 disc spindle a week... and you could ask those that worked with me, too, and they would agree on the topic, too.

And whenever we had a flaky burner come in for a diagnosis, we always required the owner to bring in some of their media, too. I would not be exaggerating if I told you 6 times out of 10 it was low-quality or incompatible media, not a problem with the drive.

It's great that you've had good luck with Memorex... if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

However, in CF87's case it is broke, and I'll lay you odds it's either a dirty lens or the discs themselves.

Funny you mention the heat.....I noticed that the day of the post it was really hot in the car and it wouldn't play past track, like 32.....today, much cooler, cold front pushed through...I got to track 52 on the same CD today before it started skipping.

It's probably the burner, or burner/CD-R issue, as you say. I'm a 'Geek' myself, but I'll give you the crown for CD burning knowledge

I just wondered if anyone else had problems...and it seems that would be the case. I'm going to try folders and TDK CD-R's as soon as I can to see if anything helps....it's just nice to have your favorite CD collections on 6 CD-R's.

Thanks for all of the feedback.....

I hear that. 6-disc MP3 changer + XM satellite + front aux for iPod = Ever Victorious is happy.

Just to close this one out.....here's what I foundThe CD's that didn't work for me had a yellow tint to them. I tried TDK, Maxell, and Memorex. I used a no-name CD-R from CompUSA (Home of the Red Shirted MIS-Information Specialists) with a silver/gray tint on the burn side and that has played all 160 tracks without any problem for over a week now. Burned the CD at 16X as well.

I used to work for the land of the red shirts...

Ahh, being free and having a REAL job is so much better.

Glad to see things worked out for you. Odd that their no-name factory reject CDs worked, but hey... at least something did.

I think this had more to do with your burner not handling the other discs right, because my V takes TDK's just fine. My Gateway has a Philips DVD-RW drive in it.

I've been using Verbatum CD-R disks with no problem at all.

While we're on the subject of the stereo....I have an Iriver Clix mp3 player. What do I need to hook it up to the stereo? Do I use the earphone jack into the Aux in? Or do I need a special cable that hooks up to the port on the bottom of the Clix to hook into the Aux in? How have others been connecting mp3 players?

I've just used a standard mini-stereo audio cable to run from my iPod Shuffle to the aux port on the front of the changer. No fuss, no muss, and it all disconnects and hides away in my armrest real easy. We use the same cable to connect my wife's standard iRiver.
